2008 Ranger not programming for wireless key?

Just bought a 2008 ranger 3.0 and I’m trying to do the 8 key turn system so I can connect a wireless key fob to it and it’s not working at all.

I checked the owners manual and it has instructions on how to do it. I have tried doing it with both doors unlocked, locked, the drivers door open and closed. I am not touching anything in the car including pedals etc and have tried doing it from many different “off” points in the ignition etc. I even saw someone say turning on the wipers worked but it didn’t for me. at this point I’m pretty confident there’s something wrong with it and want to see what might need fixed for it to work.

IIRC, you should be leaving the ignition in the 'run' position at the end of the 8th cycle. That's when the locks should cycle and you press the button on the fob to pair it.

I left it in the on position for 10 seconds with no success

The first step is often overlooked

You MUST use the power lock button on the drivers door to unlock the doors.

Also, just because the truck has power door locks doesn't mean it has remote keyless entry.

so the truck has no power lock button options on the door which is weird. The only two ways to lock/ unlock the car are to use the key in the keyhole or push the lock button down to lock it with my hand. The owners manual does show that I can program it to wireless entry etc

Lacking power locks, I'd say you also don't have the ability to use a fob either. Meaning, there's no solenoids in the doors.

The manual is generic. It's printed for all trim lines and model. If you have a RWD truck, the manual will still have instructions on 4WD.

Oh so it can be printed out in the manual even though it might not be possible? Idk why they’d do a lock that’s impossible to use with my hands/ some type of device on the interior. Any clue on if I could have aftermarket module installed?

yes there’s the **** at the top of the inside of the door next to the window that you can push down to lock but not pull up to unlock, there’s nothing else you can use to lock or unlock besides the key in the outside keyhole

so I found out that there was no fuse in the ‘35’ slot (for power locks) in the fuse box, when I went to install a new fuse it seemed there was no possible way to install it/ the slot seemed empty and the fuse didn’t stay put/ connect to anything. Do I have any options for a cheap/ easy aftermarket keyless entry system?

I'll bet it unlocks when you open the door from the inside.

Since any aftermarket kit you might be able to get won't integrate with the factory wiring, most likely you'll have to use different fobs.

yeah I don’t like using the keyhole and interior locks hahah. I don’t care what fob I use as long as there is some kit that’s easy to install that will work. Do you know of any? The truck is an extended cab 2 door XL

I am also trying to program a key fob, when I go through the 8 steps the door locks cycle but when I press a button nothing happens. I did use the power lock button on the driver's door to unlock the doors.
