2009 Ford Ranger FX4 Key fob issue
2009 Ford Ranger FX4 Key fob issue
I have turned to these forums as I literally have no other ideas of what might be causing my issue. I have a 2009 ford ranger FX4, and randomly one day, the key fob stopped working. Instinctually, I swapped the battery, but that did nothing. So I presumed that the key fob unprogrammed itself and I went to do the whole programming thing. So I cycled the key 8 times, and the locks cycled to indicate that its in programming mode, I pressed a button on the fob, and the locks cycled again indicating that it programmed, and i removed the key and the locks cycled one last time to show that it was out of programming mode. I got out of the truck to see if it worked, and I pressed the button, and nothing happened. So my last resort was to get a brand new one from the dealership. I did the same programming steps, and still nothing. So at this point, I am at a loss. My truck literally programs the fob, but the fob doesnt do anything when I try to use it. I am hoping one of you know what this is, because this is starting to really throw me for a loop...
Thanks, lemme know if you need better explanation, this is the best way I can imagine to explain it as it is just naturally confusing.

Welcome to the forum
Just FYI when you enter Keyless entry programming mode the system ERASES all previous fobs, this is in case you lose a fob or its stolen, or an EX has one, lol
So you have to add all fobs back if you have more than one
After exiting program mode does the fob work when INSIDE the cab, wondering if its an antenna issue
In 2011 I think keyless entry is in the SJB(smart junction box) located in passenger side kick panel, fuse box is part of the SJB
Its not a serviceable part, SJB is the Body Computer
You can try doing a reset, unhook one battery cable for 5 minutes, then hook it back up, and try reprogramming again
Unhooking battery doesn't erase anything so its a longshot, but not a no shot
The keyless entry system has power all the time, or it wouldn't work to unlock the doors, lol, so cutting its power for a few minutes might get it to reboot to factory software and clear any errors
