DEARBORN, Feb. 6, 2009 – The 2010 Ford Ranger comes to market this summer by adding unique standard safety technologies, including Ford’s AdvanceTrac® with RSC® – the world’s most sophisticated electronic stability control system that helps prevent skidding and rollovers – and combination side air bags.

Industry-exclusive AdvanceTrac with RSC goes a step beyond stability control systems found on competitive models with a gyroscopic roll sensor that determines both the vehicle’s body roll angle and roll rate.

If it detects the vehicle is about to roll, the system automatically applies additional countermeasures – such as reducing engine power 15 percent and/or applying brakes to one or more wheels – to enhance vehicle rollover resistance.

The new Ranger’s head-and-chest combination side air bags provide enhanced head and torso protection in certain side impacts. The side air bag system is designed to cushion the head, minimizing lateral head injuries in case of collision, in addition to acting as a barrier between the occupant and the side of the vehicle,

“The 2010 Ranger’s Roll Stability Control and combination side air bag technologies will help occupants stay out of harm’s way,” said Steve Kozak, chief engineer of safety systems, Ford Motor Company. “The Ranger has been America’s most fuel-efficient pickup, and now it features a combination of safety features not offered in any other small pickup.”

In addition, Ranger also provides high levels of safety and security with Ford’s Personal Safety System®, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and SecuriLock® passive anti-theft system, all included as standard equipment on all models.

Also standard are four-wheel anti-lock brakes, driver- and front-passenger air bags, safety belts with front pretensioners for outboard seating positions and side-intrusion door beams. Ford’s front-passenger sensing system helps ensure air bags are not deployed on the passenger side when small children are detected. Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) child-seat mounts are provided in the front-passenger seat on all models.

Further adding value to the Ranger is its class-leading fuel economy and low cost of ownership. With EPA-estimated fuel economy at 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway for the 2.3-liter I-4 engine, Ranger offers unsurpassed fuel economy for pickups. Plus its 7,500-mile service intervals for routine maintenance, such as oil changes, help Ranger historically rank among the lowest cost of ownership among all compact pickups studied by Edmunds.com.

 

god. All that "technology" in there is probably a b!tch to fix. And that RSC sounds like it will be the first to go for the typical wheeler.

 

Looks like that AdvanceTrac with RSC stability thing will be a pain in the *** when your off roading, your doing a hill climb tilting to the side and all of a sudden your rpms drop and brakes engage.....WTF!?!?!? lol

Im pretty sure the RSC is something the government madated to be standard on all vehicles. Because as always, they know whats best for us.

 

yup, that is exactly what it was. it was supposed to be for 2009 but they must have extended it.

 

those seem like changes to me? the lack of the side curtain airbags was certain death to the venerable ranger for 2010, the year they are mandated to be used in all vehicles, so im glad to see they are implementing them as well as the RSC technology and continuing production through the 2010 model year. the fact that they added those features and didnt scrap the ranger line is hope that they are thinking about continuing the ranger in production past 2010. one can only hope anyways. man what did you guys expect, a V8? dont hold your breath lol as much as i think that the little ranger could use an update, its managed to hold its own against the larger, more powerful midsize trucks in sales with the ranger being essentially unchanged for the most part in nearly 10 years. that should say alot about the ranger customer base.

 

I'm dissapointed in the 4 bangers 21 city 26 freeway. That's pathetic. I think that needs to be in the 30's for highway.

 

That's just the EPA rating. It's just an avg for all vehicles that fit that criteria. Most of the 2.3's are getting 30ish on the hwy.

 

well for the average driver those are good things but doesn't sound like I want to be wheeling one.

Why would you buy a brand new vehicle to wheel anyway? The money you lose when you drive it off the lot would be enough to buy yourself a wheelin' beater!

I never get below 24-25 on mixed driving, in cold weather, and 28-29 mixed driving in hot weather. Hoping to get past 30 this summer now that my engine is probably broken in.

 

what if it is 2021 and I find beat an old beater 2010 ranger, then I will remember. Nope that's the year they started with all that RSC crap

 

The RSC and side airbags are government mandates.

 

How did I know that they wouldn't change it. I will be skipping it at the car show once again.

 

They didn't get the idea that maybe the interior could use a little updating? Or the fact that they need to use some damn LED's inside...?

 

I'd love to have a 2010 Ranger but what would it cost ?? With about $2,000 down payments over 5 years would be between $ 360 and $400 a month*. My 2003 costs me about $220 a month and I only have 37 months to go. Sorry, I can't afford a $400 a month truck payment.

And they wonder why people aren't buying. How many people can afford a $400 a month payment for a vehicle ??

* The above estimates are based on a selling price between $18,500 and $20,000.

 

I'm not expecting a V-8, but i am expecting some minor changes like a new grill, or some interior changes. Something different!!!

Another way of looking at it is:

$400 x 60 months = $24,000 + $2,000 down = $ 26,000

$220 x 37 months = $8,140

So a new truck would cost me an additional $ 17,860 with interest.

So a new truck would cost me approx. 3 times more money in the long run.


I don't think so. It doesn't make sense.

 

in all honesty, if i was going to spring for a new truck, id rock the new f150, not the new ranger

 

glad to hear it isnt being scrapped

and that rsc is junk, last summer i drove some 08 e350 15 pass vans equipped with it and they were absolutley useless off road (had to do it) and wouldnt apply power to the wheels even if on the slightest grade .... even with the off button still got stuck too easy.
