2011 Ranger electrical issues
2011 Ranger electrical issues
I have a 2011 Ford ranger V6 XLT that has two strange electrical issues.
1. When its cold below 30 degrees the turn signal do not work until the truck warms up usually take 5 to 10 minutes.
2. The door is ajar, chime and dome light keep going on and off intermittently. There is a continuous clicking noise like a relay coming from the radio area. This occurs even when the the truck is off and the key is not in the ignition. My guess is there is some type of relay or controller that has a short but I can't seem to find any information about it. The drive side door switch has already been replaced and did not resolve the issue.
Would really appreciate any help or suggestions.

#2 first, its the door switch or the SJB(smart junction box), cab fuse panel is part of the SJB, SJB is the "Body Computer" replaced the GEM Module in 2004 Rangers, control most of the electrics in the cab
The Door switch is a ground control switch
When Driver's door is opened the switch is Closed and Grounds the wire going to the SJB, SJB then activates Door Ajar light, dome light and any chimes
If you unplug the 2 wire door switch then it can no longer Ground that wire
If it still happens then the wire to SJB may be grounding out inside the door hinge boot or at the SJB connector
"New Door Switch" just means NEVER EVER TESTED door switch, so never rely on "new" parts just because they are new
SJB uses 4 large connectors and they are known to get corrosion inside, the connectors not the SJB, so remove the Passenger side kick panel and remove each connector to inspect for corrosion
Then put them back on, this cleans all the contacts as well
Turn signal does not use SJB, except for the fuses in the SJB panel
When cold and before turning on the key test if the 4-way Flashers work, they should, they have power full time like brake lights do, they use a different fuse than turn, fuse 17
Turn uses fuse 20, only has power with key on
Pull out both fuses and inspect terminals for corrosion
4-way and turn share a 5 pin Flasher located under the dash usually just to the left of steering column
When turns are working you should be able to find it from the "clicking" noise
Not an expensive part to replace just on speculation
