3,402.4 Mile Road Trip...and the Final Costs!

I just returned from driving from Northern Texas to Mid-North Carolina and back. My total mileage for the entire trip/vacation was 3,402.4 miles. I used a total of 160.546 gallons of fuel for a fuel economy of 21.2 MPG. The total gas cost was....$459.31!!! That means the next time I travel home, it will be by plane. This is freaking nuts. I didn't add in a hotel room plus food costs.

The most expensive fuel I purchased was in Chapel Hill, NC at $2.97 per gallon for 87 and the cheapest was in Oklahoma City, OK at $2.70 per gallon for 87.

My truck's specs are on the profile, and note I have a cap on the back of my Edge.

Yeah, gas is expensive here. I fill up whenever I am in Hillsborough since it is cheaper there.

Holy moly! Atleast you didn't have to pay over $3 a gallon. I think it's like $3.14ish over here...

Shazam. Good point! Argh, I might look into ditching the truck cap for a tonneau cover. The cap gives you awesome storage capacity though.

Gas is too freakin expensive, I am going to Tampa on Saturday and I will be able to find out my highway mileage. I have traveled on the highway a few time but I don't remember the #.

ha yup CA sucks in price of gas. freakin i have 2 pay $50 or more to fill up my tank. even i use the safeway club card to get like some cents off a gallon of gas. i just wish that it was back in the old days where my dad says a gallon of gas was like 18 cents. omg it would be a road trip everyday if gas cost that much. HaHa White Castle any1????

I think your average MPG isn't that bad, but there's a point when the dollar per gallon hits unless your getting 25mpg or more you will see the high dollar total of your trip.

2.72-2.75 here and I'm b!tching about gas prices. I feel sorry for all of us. I laughed when my Dad told me to drive back and forth to College everyday (100 mile round trip).

Now that I have a cap that is designed for my ranger it doesn't affect milage. I get about the same (18.5 highway) with or without it.
