I know what the diffrence is between 4 point and 5 point harness, but what is the safety diffrences?

Is there any safety diffrences between a Automotive buckle harness and latch and link buckle harness?

These would be used in a offroad machine with a roll cage and a top speed of 70MPH.

 

4 point has two lap belts and two shoulder belts

5 point has a crotch belt as well

 

a 5 point harness will keep you from sliding down in the seat....

 

that is the only reason I could think of. Just making sure there isn't anymore

 

get a 5pt, you dont have the wear all 5, if you want to its at your disposal, beyond that i have no help..

my buddy wheeled with 2 of the 5 on, you knew he was crawling some crazy stuff when he put the shoulder harnesses on, and i dont think i ever saw him put the crotch belt on haha

I think I rather have the 5 for the luxury of using it when racing.

 

a properly designed 4pt is more comfortable and will eliminate submarining in any form of rapid deceleration.

my belts are made by Schroth. they utilize ASM technology on the DOT legal harnesses.

for a full out racing vehicle 5 or 6pt all the way. but for play toys, i like Schroth 4pts.

6 point would be over kill lol.

Me and my GF are buying a RZR, plan on racing it together a few times a year. Its top speed is aroud 70 MPH which could get kinda hairy in a roll over, but I think anything more then a 5 point would be overkill.

This would also be a cruising vehicle too so I need something confortible

I would get a 700 Rhino Over a Polaris Ranger XP. But if your into the more sporter UTVs I would look at the Polaris Ranger RZR which i want

just make sure when you mount the shoulder belts for the harnesses that they arent at more then a 10* angle coming off your shoulders, or you could compress your spine in a wreck.

 

Thanks! That is nice to know. There is a bar for the roll cage behind the seat. You can kinda see it in the pic above. That is where most people attach them too.

 

as long as its not mounted real low youll be fine, what happens in a crash with a low mounted shoulder harness is your body moves forward but the harness tryes to pull you down, so your back loses and the harness wins aka F's your back.

 

Ya I can see how that happends.

Also another thing I have witnessed. When wearing a harness be sure to TIGHTEN IT ALL THE WAY.

last time my friend was at the dunes a dune buggy lauched off a sand dune. guess they didnt know to slow down They ended up landing on flat ground.

The passenger had some bruises but was ok since her straps where snug. The drivers harness was a little loose and ended up breaking her hip in mutiple locations
