The 5.0L has arrived!!!

FINALLY!!!

After all of my anticipation, anxiety, preparation, and research, I finally achieved my first goal.

I picked up my Mountaineer yesterday, signed the bill of sale and title, then started the dissection!

I must say, this motor is flawless.
There is no rust, corrosion, dirt, mud, or anything anywhere near this vehicle!!!

Sorry there's only one picture. My camera died, and is now on the charger. I'll post much more pictures later this afternoon!

NICE! i take it you drove it home? If so, how was the acceleration of it? Was it pretty peppy in the low end?

I wish i had one of those sitting in my garage..

Unfortunately I didn't drive it home. It came home on a flatbed trailer. There is some spindle damage to the passenger's side front. The driver slid into a guard rail and the initial impact bent the spindle. The guard rail spun the 'Ploder around and it slid into the same guard rail backwards, damaging the rear hatch slightly.

Because of the spindle damage, it wouldn't drive nor hold a wheel and tire.

Especially at a time like this, right!? I know I know...lame excuse, but I've been too busy performing surgery on the thing to stop and take pictures anyway! I will definitely get some up later today.

Ah, ic.

I just wonder how they are as far as acceleration (peppy) VS. the SOHC 4.0 i have now. Mine just dosent 'go'....Mainly cause of the tires and gearing i have, but i bet a 5.0 could fix that easily...

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for the explorer?

Here's some more pics!

I'll be getting some paint to make this overhead console solid black. It's nice, but it was designed for sunroof operation, so I'll be modifying the switch panel to operate the nitrous and neon systems.

I can't get over how much of a BEAST this 4-speed auto (4R70W) is!!! The transmission crossmember was a little complicated, since it also houses the torsion bar key mounts. I've got the tranny ready to drop, but I'm going to let the fluid drip out slowly overnight then drop it tomorrow:

This is one of the 4 wheels it came with, plus the spare, which is a basic steelie.

It's really nice pulling parts off a vehicle that you know its destiny is to be crushed and recycled for scrap metal....

I've got a ridiculous habit of categorizing and storing my nuts, bolts, screws, and washers in pickle jars.
Here is the 'Ploder's contribution to my collection so far:

I know this is probably pretty redundant information, but I hope it will help someone understand just what I'm talking about!

Red: Torsion Bar
Blue: Torsion (bar) key
Green: Transmission crossmember
Yellow: O2 sensor from right bank

I left the transmission hanging like that because it's slowly dripping the remaining fluid out. I will screen the fluid when I empty it into a container, to make sure all is well. I also need to loosed the motor mount nuts before I can lower the tranny down to remove it.
