85 Carburetor

Hello,
I have an 85 2.8 liter Ranger that I ordered from the factory. I just put a bunch of money into an engine/tranny rebuild getting it ready to hand down to my son. I love this truck, it has been very very good to me. The project has come along well with mostly asthetics being left to do. The only thing I am having problems with is the carb. It has been rebuilt with a new kit, and adjusted several times, but continues to be very irregular on street and freeway driving. Instead of dinking with it any more, I was wondering if anyone knows of THE BIG FIX, or another carburetor that would work well on this engine. I am in California, so it would have to be able to pass smog. I have searched this forum, but couldn't find anything.
Any help from anyone would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Paul

I know this doesn't help your carb problem directly, but it is an option to consider......... http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...Duraspark.html

and especially here for a carb recommendation.... http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...rformance.html

Good luck with your project. I loved my old red 83 2.8 4wd!
