'96 Ranger Squeal?

Not sure if this is the right sub-forum to post in so I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place.

My '96 Ranger has started to make this weird squealing noise when I accelerate, and I'm not quite sure what it is. I feel like it is probably transmission related but I don't know much about cars to diagnose it. I took a video of what it sounds like. \

That is the video, the whole truck kinda rumbles when I accelerate when it makes that noise, and I can feel it underneath my feet which is what makes me believe it is the transmission. The truck only does this once in a while and not every time I drive it, It's usually only when I use the truck for more than two or three times a day.

The truck has 192k miles on it, and I'm unsure about its previous history because I have owned it since it had 180k.

Welcome Nick.

I'm new to fixing stuff as well. I want to try to help. Nice picture for the video by the way. Ok. I want to assume this was you revving the engine while in park. So the transmition was not in a gear. Park equals zero power to wheels. Engine doesn't shift to another gear. Just sitting there. I know you said you get it when driving. Yet I hear it here in what I believe is parked revving of the engine. Kind of like nuetuel. Not in any gear of the transmition.

So I assume all that. I can then assume it isn't the drive axle. Because if that moved you would. I would think. I hear a tick tick sound. Not a squeal. I know words. Everytime it does it the revving goes up and down. Goes up tick down. Goes up tick then down.

The tick is a metal on metal hit.

Do you have smooth excelleration through all the gears while in drive?
When transmitions are starting to fail you loose reverse first I have been told.
Does reverse work all the time?

I have played your video many times. It only makes me ask more questions. Maybe someone else could say something about it.

How about a video of the speedometer and the tachometer as you go from zero to 60 to merge onto a highway. Not heavy foot. Not light foot. About medium. Like you know the road is clear. You are just getting up to speed not real fast but really steady.

I only ask. Because what I hear is something that might make the truck jerk everytime it clicks. Any lights on the dash on? Check engine light?

Anybody else with an idea. I hear it over and over in my head now. It is so predictable when it will click. It is like a beat in a song. Same thing over and over.

All levels of fluids are good right?
Anything dripping when parked? If so what color? What is it?

Merry Christmas hope someone else has an idea.
I want to know as well.
Jim
