99 ranger transmission issue please help
Welcome to the forum
Not a solenoid or valve body issue
Classic symptom of a broken sprag(one-way clutch), 99% sure
The sprag initiates movement in D and R both
In 1 and 2 the Coast clutch initiates movement and its also used at higher speed so if D starts to work above say 30mph that would confirm sprag failure
Sprag replacement would mean full tear down to replace, if over 150k miles then I would do full rebuild, and you may have to anyway since when a sprag breaks metal bits can get into everything, when you drain and drop the pan you will probably see metal bits
