ABS problems?

so starting last night I left my late night electricians college class, noticed my brake pedal was really soft and I had to floor it to slow down, so I pulled over, filled my brake fluid up to the max line, still really soft pedal but no lights on the dash. I started it this morning and every possible brake light was lit up on the dash, I checked my fluid and the reservoir was almost empty, I filled it up and all the lights went off but the ABS light stayed on, and the pedal is so soft that even flooring it I have to put the truck in neutral to be able to stop. occasionally one of the rear wheels will lock up and slide the entire time I’m slowing down. was wondering if anybody has dealt with this before, couldn’t find a post with the same symptoms so I apologize ahead of time if one already existed. thanks

One of your tires may show leaking brake fluid on the inside part of the tire, rub your hand on the inside of the tire and smell fingers it will smell like brake fluid

You don't mention the year of the Ranger????

There is a single brake line that runs to the rear brakes inside the drivers side frame rail, this line can rust out and leak fluid, you would see signs of that on the ground
Take can of brake fluid and drive to a dry location, like under ground parking lot
Stop in a clean spot and pump the brakes several times
Get out and look behind each tire and along the drivers side center of Ranger, for wet spots, brake fluid leaking out

Be care you WILL LOSE YOUR BRAKES when Master get empty

The leak is why the ABS light is on

My apologies, I’m new to the forum and it made me put in my truck info when making my profile, for some reason I thought it would include that next to the username. it’s a 93, 4wd, 2 wheel abs with the 4.0. and thanks, I’ll give that a try. I looked for leaks already but in oregon it’s never dry so everything was wet under the truck. it’s been sitting for a couple days now though so I’ll look into it. I appreciate the help

I went to university in Eugene, Go Ducks, lol

So know the rain part really well

Brake fluid does have a distinctive smell, and will have that rainbow effect when its mixed with water when you shine a light on it, like oil or gasoline

My Oregon joke
Whats worse than a sick Duck on your piano?
A diseased Beaver on your organ

Sports rival university in Corvallis, Oregon are the Beavers
