Add One Ranger to the Fix List

Well guys i was driving down the freeway in 5th gear and i pulled of to exit. I got to the part where you turn into the lane and LOST all my GEARS. The gear shift would not throw into gear. Im kinda pissed. I already had lost 3rd on the way and was kinda worried. So i pulled of to the side after finally managing 1st by switching back and forth between the only available gear REVERSE. which didnt even help me because there was a line behind me lol. So i turned it off and waited. It started smoking more an more and then finally stopped. I let it sit and then turned it back onand got to the nearest gas station which was like a couple hundred feet. When i would start out in first it would go and then act like i was letting the clutch out to fast and "hop" so to speak. So my dad came up and got it to go into 4th gear as well as 2nd. He used those gears to drive all the way home which was like 30 miles or so. That was my adventure. Any suggestions?

The slave cylinder is inside the transmission bellhousing (atleast on 98+), it's a pita. If you're just change the slave cylinder, you may be able to seperate the tranny and engine (and drivelines), and sort of slide the tranny back a little while on a jack to gain access to it. The slave is a huge pain to bleed correctly too.

hey about the slave i have a question..im currently having the same problem i think its the slave cylinder.ive been refilling the fluid like a mad man because i use the truck everyday for work and it seems to be working but when it gets low it becomes harder to put in gear or itll flat out not go into gear.so i fill it everytime it does that.can it be anything besides the slave and how do i change the slave?

ps:srry about ur truck maybe in the mean time you could try what im doing with filling it.
