I finally bought a portable air compressor. It came with a 33' coiled hose that is 5/16. I was wondering if I could buy a non coiled hose that was 50' and it was larger than 5/16 lets go with 3/8. How would it affect my air compressor. It has a max of 150psi and it will fill up on of my tires from 13psi to 32psi in about 2 minutes (not timed but my estimate). I want to mount it behind my drivers seat, but the coiled 33' won't reach the tires on the other side of the truck. Thanks

 

3/8 hose comes in 20,30,50,75,and 100 feet lenghts its a standard fit,check home depot,lowes.

 

increasing the diameter of the hose will allow a higher volume of air to move through in a shorter period at the same pressure

 

plus girls like a larger diameter and longer hose

 

Thanks Neil, I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't be hurting my compressor by getting a longer and wider hose.

 

33' should be fine to reach all 4 tires

 

remember the quick disconnect fittings. common is 1/4", makes it easyer to unhook hose or add more or un hook roll up hose and connest both ends togeather for storage.

coiled hose sucks. 33' of coiled hose = crap maybe 25 feet.

I guess I'm going to go out and buy 50' of 3/8 hose to use with this compressor. It has a max psi of 150 and I only fill my tires to 31 psi so even if I loss a little pressure I still should be fine.

BTW I bought this mainly for off roading so I can run lower pressure while on the trail and aire up for the ride home.

 

I have a 25 foot 3/8's air hose with quick connect fittings laying in my attic. I replaced it with a retractable 50 foot hose that I have mounted to the wall above my air compressor. If you want it I'd love to send it your way.

However, since you're doing a vehicular install, I'd recommend sticking with the coiled hose, but just get a longer/bigger one. Otherwise you'll be winding a hose up every time you turn around! They do make 20, 25, and 30 foot coiled hoses, available at Harbor Freight or Home Depot.

 

there like a rubber band. they only stretch so much. a 25' of regular hose should reach around your truck.

 

you are mounting it in the cab? wow that will be loud

 

rather then buy one long hose. i found the if you get 2 like 25' hoses then you only put on what you need. if you need to go futher then put on another 25'er. i used to work on bigrigs, driver mechanic. i used that method, i had 3 25' hoses. worked well if i needed to air tires up on the truck. or on a big machine. quick connects are very handy. use one on your pump. its easyer to break down everything into easyer to handel parts then having the pump threaded to the hose.

 

It actuall isn't that loud. When I'm airing up my tires after wheeling I'm not going to be sitting in the cab, so even if it was really loud who cares I'm not sitting in the cab rockin out while airing up. I decided inside the cab because when it's over 100 degrees outside and the thermal shut off switch activates @ 158 degrees, I don't want that to be happening all the time. Inside the air conditiond cab is better plus there is not as much dust inside the truck as outside so the air filter along with the whole compressor will like me more. I'm going to go with the 25-30 foot hose and if I think I'm going to need longer I'll do the extension thing black cat mentioned.

 

make sure ya wire it to the batt with some good wire. factory only uses enough gauge wire for like a 5' run. plus if there plenty of power for it to draw on not restricted by the wiring it will also be much happyer too.

 

if you run the hose out of the passenger door you should have no problems reaching all 4 tires

 

better yet. if it going ot be install in cab. then plumb in the quickdisconnect somewhere outside the truck. it would be preaty cool.

 

ya know, if you pay the extra money and get a made in the usa true rubber hose, it wont be such a b!tch to wind up when ur done. unlike those cheap *** PITA vynil hoses that once you take out of the pkg never wind back up in a neat little coil ever again. We have a true, made in america air hose in our shop, and its a dream to work with compared to the cheapo hoses.. tho they do cost a premium, and im my opion its worth it to save my self the aggrevation... besides, i got enuff stress, dont need no **** from a friggin hose. otherwise itd be laying on the side of the road...lol

 

i use the rubber hoses made by goodyear and sold by harbor fright tools. good hoses ive been tough on mine. coil up well too.
