Another interesting fact about the 08 ranger

So I was bored and went and decided to build a ranger on their site. Apparently you can now get a regcab 4x4 with the 4.0 and manual without getting the long bed! It's now been added to the list for my next vehicle.

You don't like things sliding around smashing into the bed? There is nothing like driving around with a loaded ice chest, hitting the breaks, feel and hear it smash into the back of the cab and having beer and pop all over the bed!

Wish I had been able to get my 2.3 duratec single cab as a 4x4. I used to have an old 2.3 lima 4x4 and it was actually powerful enough off road in low range, and adequate on the highway too. But the Duratec with its 16 valves and DOHC is a huge improvement over that in both power AND economy. Sadly only Toyota still makes a single cab 4x4 with a 4 banger--sure its a bigger 4 banger but its in in a larger, heavier truck too.

BTW 99ranger4x4, I put a canopy on mine and build a platform with a bed and storage underneath that keeps my coolers and stuff located at the back of the box so it doesn't slide around. Also puts a little extra weight over the rear axle for traction. The single cab has advantages as others have said, and it's easier to park in the city too where many of us, sadly, spend too much of our time...

If I was towing or working the truck and needed some brawn a 4.0 single cab 4x4 would have been sweet. Or a diesel like they get overseas!!

I usually do strap it down with bungies. I just connect two bungies from one side to the other via cargo tie down anchor things. An ice chest fits perfectly there and it barely moves. That one time I didn't though.......

haha, i ratchet strap the cooler against the tailgate, then put a bungee over the lid..

its not bad having crap slide around, but it can get annoying..

im going to just stick with my story, i like being able to toss stuff in the back seat..

besides i have this now in my bed, im going to have to keep the cooler in the truck

kinda screwed myself.. the tires going to have to get taken off and stood up. or i may pull it as far up as i can in the spare tire carrier for the road part of the trip

I'm actually looking to fix the Bronco up, sell it sometime after the snow starts to fly and buy a 3rd gen regular cab, short bed 4WD with a 4.0L OHV for my new weekend warrior. The Bronco is just a little too big.

Don't get me wrong I love my Bronco! There are some drawbacks to it, it's too big on the trail, I have a year thats really hard to find aftermarket parts for and it has a quarter million miles on it.

They get around and in and out real good in the woods.

same wheelbase as my bronco i think with less width makes it easier to wheel. Bronco does the job damn well, but in the woods it's tight.
