which one do you prefer? my old 88 stx 4x4 extra cab was a true 4x4 with manual transfer case and locking hubs, man have times changed, i still like the manual mode better, seems more truck like. anybody else care to comment??.

 

ummmmm.......i want a manual transfer case.......i have the automatic and wish i had the manual........i may just have one if i keep it much longer....

Manual T-Case

 

The only late model Rangers with the manual transfer case were the 2002 FX4 Off Road and the 2003 FX4 Level II and then only on those equipped with a manual transmission. Other than those exceptions, everything other recent Ranger has had 'Electronic Shift on the Fly' with the motorized transfer case selector.

And, yes, I prefer the manual case.

I have had no issues out of the automatic case in mine, no real advantage to me to have a manual.

Meh thats a minor thing to me, more issues to deal with when lifting and note everyone has issues with the AUTO. If mine was a manual then I would like it just the same.

 

Yeah, I never had a problem with my old 03 fx4 w/auto tcase. Then again it only had 28k miles when the incident occured.....

Doesn't Summit make a cable conversion to convert to manual transfer shift? I've been looking and can't find one. IMO MANUAL is the only way to go and including manual lock hubs! When I got my 93 Ranger the dealer said "What if you get stuck in the mudd, you'll have to get out and lock the hubs" my reply was "why are you in the mudd without being in 4x4?"

 

All the manual conversions I've seen are homemade, and more trouble than I think they're worth. None of them give positive feedback that you are centered in 4HI range when you get there.

I've modified the control system to make it more reliable since most failures are not the motor but the position encoder. It's posted on the board with a schematic if you're interested.

Manual t-cases without slip yokes are relatively rare. Most are the older type with slip yokes for the front driveshaft.

If you want a real manual t-case and have the bread get an adapter from Advance adapters and use a different type.
