Icon13 backed into someone today

i was backing out of a parking spot at wal mart. i had my project motorcycle in the back and cars on all three side of me so it was hard to see. i looked both ways twice like i always do. didnt see any cars coming so i started backing out. as i was backing up i looked foreword to make sure that i would clear the car to the right of me when i was turning. all of a sudden i hear crunch. i look back and see my tailgate against a black car. i pull foreword and get out.

this guy was really cool about the whole thing. i go up to him and check out the damage. it wasnt to bad. the guy said to me, "dont worry about. we will buff it and make it look better. just be carefull". i couldnt beleave it. this wasnt some old piece of crap car. it looked like an almost brand new car. so i said thank you very much and that was that.

im glad my tailgate was down because when i hit him it lifted up so the damage wasnt to bad. and no damage to my truck.

wow.....what a cool guy. I mean, he knows it was an accident. I probably would've done the same thing.

I remember when I had my SS Monte Carlo some old couple did the same thing and backed into me in a parking lot, the wife was apologizing so much and her husband was worried about me. I just told them it was okay and went on my way with my nice little $500 dent.

either that or he didn't see your reverse lights on... Maybe he was about to apologize when you did and figured "Play it cool" lol

Man, if that happened out here, you would probably be sued for everything under the sun, car damage, emotional suffering, loss of work... etc. lol

when i was driving my dads F350 i backed into a propane tank trying to align the truck with a gas pump. good thing it was just a dent in the bumper and not a ruptured propane tank.

Maybe if it was someone I knew....lol. Otherwise I'd be a *****, take the money and run!

He prolly had something illegal in the car and didn't want the cops to find something when they came to do an accident report.

The perfect reason why I back into a spot so I can drive out.

Be careful with loads in your truck so you don't loose visiblity. If you have limited visibilty then park way out in the lot to lessen your chances of an accident. Walking is preferred to crashing.
If you have someone with you have them spot you.
If you have blind spot(s) get out and look before backing up.

Maybe it's as simple as he once had an accident like that and the person he hit was nice so he passed the favor on?

I had a guy rub against the drivers side front panel 3 weeks ago.

He left his number on windsheild, and I called him that night.

It was just a scrape, with little or no paint lost, and something I can just buff out and not worry about.

I thanked him for his honesty, and he was all worried, and told him that the fact he left his contact info, that I would not pursue anything.

He then offered to send me $30 to buy a nice waxing kit, which I told him was not a big deal, but he insisted.

Honesty goes a LONG way today, that I am willing to forgive someone who fesses up.

Heres how I see it...

This older man has had kids yell at him, and scream at him for their mistakes, and when one kid makes a mistake, admits to it, he gives him a break, a way of rewarding his behavior..

And like he said, be more careful next time, and maybe install some sort of backup alert?

You got out lucky.

Count yourself extremly lucky to of run into this nice gentleman..

I must give you Kudos though for not loosing your cool, I'd be pissed if something like that happend, even more so if it was my fault..
