Took my brake pads off and both are cracking. This why my passenger side is squealing when I come to a stop

 

yes.. heat cracking on the pads is bad. get your rotors turned and buy new pads.

 

Damn rotors are only a year old

I think I got a warranty on them @ Oreilly

warranty on a brake rotor? i've never heard of that before.

if you take the rotors to your local mechanic or repair center (mineke, goodyear, firestone, etc) they usually only charge about $10 to re-surface the rotors. that would be easier than fighting a warranty battle at o-reily's imo.lol

and when they turn the rotor's it'll cut that groove off too.

 

I think it was a 1 year warranty or something

 

just go get them re-surfaced and they will be good as new.

 

yeah go get the rotors resurfaced, ive let the brakes pads go all the way to the metal that holds it and it torn my driverside rotor up, had to reaplce them both, the guy i had do the work resurface the old rotors just in case i might need them some time and you couldnt even tell they had been messed

ppl always tried to do this when i was at pepboys, its probably a warranty against manufactures defects, you riding your brakes and causing wear isnt covered

 

I dont ride my brakes I only use them when necessary.

My first problem was buying cheap pads and rotors.

Should be getting my order from rockauto soon with some better quality pads and rotors

At times I cant stand my father in law, but in these economic times I appreciate his help

I should have taken a picture of my passenger rear brakes...

First, 2 months ago, I had to pound off both rear drums with a sledge hammer and broke the driverside drum in half...

replaced pads and drums, both sides... only i forgot a top spring on the passenger side... so it baked off all the paint on the outside. when I did my wheels, I checked it and chunks were comming of the pad...

well today, about 2 weeks and 280 miles later... my rear passenger side is squealling REALLY bad, metal on metal... pull the wheel off, and there is ZERO pad left on either shoe. and the inside of the drum has DEEP gouges....

replaced with new parts this evening - myself, alone, first time... took 3hrs... lol... all fixed truck actually 'rolls' now.

 

Seems that some of the aftermarket parts do not last as long as OEM I know when local brake shop did my Explorer the rotors they installed basically were gone in what seemed to me to be a short time. Friend has Mountaineer same issue, that being said it may be the supplier at O'rielly's you know it all boils down to cost and such. Bought rotors for STI 2.5 that are cross drilled and with new rotors going great no issues. That little car gets driven hard too.
