so really whats the deal? you could always get something cheap and reliable, like a civic or some **** for real cheap and take some time building your truck up right. out of the hobby though.. i get it.

we need to go back out to the lake
**** a mercedes! ha i want a diesel to blow smoke and make a lot of noise

what lake? when do you wanna go? news says its 29'+ down. and lake austin is fawkin cold.

If the ranger goes away i'll just haul peoples **** around and ride with them.. then when i have some more money put away i'll start looking for a tube chassis to build off of.

and yea i know, its real tempting to buy a 6.0.. i know people w/o issues, but i also know more people with issues. its a junk motor.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, the pump goes out few and far between, and usually its because of pushing a LOT of fuel through it (high tq/hp). I am guessing between 1000-1200 for parts...maybe a little less.

I agree, Cummins are good engines. Just like any engine though, they have problems. I don't hate on the Cummins engine, I hate on the Dodge trucks they're in.

Anyways, I had to quote this, cause I disagree. The Cummins might be complicated, but in comparison to a 7.3L, they are not. For example, the fuel delivery in a Cummins is SIMPLE and CHEAP compared to a 7.3L. How much do injectors on a Cummins cost? In comparison to injectors on a Powerstroke?

IMO, the Cummins 5.9L is a simple simple engine.

Matt, if you want out, now is the time to sell. Take the 2500 and have a down payment on something else. I think you're on the right track looking at diesels. Just be careful not to catch the bug. If you think wheeling is expensive, try modding some of these diesels. Parts can add up fast.

oh i know.. i already told my friend "if i dont have a wheelin rig to put money in....imagine what im gonna do to the diesel" hahah

twinsssss

When i posted up on CompD, vp44 was underlined and said its the injection pump for 98.5-02.. so im clear there, if i got a 2nd gen it would be a 12v anyways.

now i just need to look into fuel filtration.

I was looking at the Fass, just need to find a price.

How does an injector failure warrant an engine rebuild? A guy on comp d says the injectors fail on crs more than the vs44 and an injector failure means full motor rebuild? wtf?

Hey Matt by reading some of your other posts, to me it sounds like now might be the time to dump off the Ranger while you can. I hear you when you say it's a tough decision though. Sometimes in cases like this a guy feels like he'll regret his decision no matter what choice he makes.

$2500 bucks sounds like a fair deal considering what you'd get for such a "custom" truck like that if you traded it in (without using the Cash for Clunkers program).
