Bama Tuner - Is the tune uploaded ??

Well I got my Bama tuner yesterday woohoo

I plugged it in set the 87 performance tune did the key on (dont start) key off thing when setting the tunes. Turn it on with a huge grin on my face and no noticable changes.... damn (EST: 12 miles HWY, 15 miles city)

I don't have 91 fuel in the tank so I didn't risk running the 91 performance tune.

At the end of my day I decided to test the rev limiter. It still limits at 3K.

I called Doug, he seemed suprised that I experienced no change, but enouraged me to try the 91 octane tune to notice more significant changes. He told me he doesn't remember if the Ranger 4.0 tunes remove the rev limiter, but from my forum searching it appears the limiter is removed. He did however assure me that the steps I replayed back to him meant the tune was sucessfully installed.

Oh yeah, when I grab the computer codes it list one code that means the ECM is unfamiliar with my driving habits and is attempting to learn them.

Please help me figure out if the tune is even installed, I was looking forward to this tuner so much

If the code you have is P1000 than that is normal either when the PCM is reprogrammed or the battery is disconnected. Not sure about the Rev Limiter but mine is a manual and never had one. I think Evan(Rangererv) doesnt have one anymore, you are talking about the one when just sitting in park right?

Yup it is P1000 and Yup I am talking about the rev limit in park. Thanks for clearing that up for everyone.

EDIT: So does the P1000 code mean my stock ECM was simply reset? Or is that a normal code?

That code will set even if you hadnt programmed the truck via BAMA tuner, it will go away once all the monitors have run for OBD2, yes the PCM was just reset.

Okay I just ran outside cleared the P1000 code. Re-did the tune install... re-checked the codes and have the P1000 code.

When you say the "PCM was just reset" do you mean that as in the BAMA program was not installed?

i put my programmer in (got it about the same time you did) and has driven about 2 1/2 tanks of gas so far. same mileage.. but rev limiter gone, and I can go faster than 92 (i got scared right when it passed it.. and i slowed down, haha). My speedo was corrected (due to my larger tires).

so all in all.. same mileage. I'm actually thinking about unplugging my battery and "resetting" my computer.. so it doesn't remember my old driving habits.. i don't know.

EDIT: the same mileage is referring to the mileage being the same EVEN when i had my bigger tires w/o the programmer ( i had corrected the difference when i was calculating). so.. yeah.. no gains thus far, mileage wise. Power.. now that's a different story.

Hmmm...mine has a setting for rev limiter in neutral/park but the highest you can set it is 4400RPM I believe but you've got to go in & do it yourself. Mine was set @ 3500RPM when I recieved the programmer.

Finally got a hold of Doug (from BamaChips.com) again today, I guess he's been pretty busy.

Anyways, he looked up my information and said he never changed the rev limiter on mine, and assured me that if I still feel stock performance after switching to the premium performance tune to send it back and he will adjust it.

Sounds like a good guy to me. =)

.... I'm going to be filling up my first tank of premium gas today (ill run through that and fill up with premium again before actually using the premium tune though)..... I can't wait to try the premium performance tune.
