The beater (aka the hunting truck) 1992 V-8 Ranger

Okay, here it is, "The Beater Speedster" aka "The Spare-Parts Special"!!!!

Mods:

1992 (I think) Ranger XLT 2WD

1989/1990 5.0 HO engine with mildly ported stock heads, modified Mustang shorty headers, dual side-exit exhaust, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and Edelbrock 650 cfm carb (ran much better with the Holley, but used a lot of fuel), and a Holley Blue Pump.

C-4 transmission (Out of an old Maverick drag car we used to have: full roller race prepped with manual/automatic valvebody) and a Pinto floor shifter

Aluminum driveshaft

1980 F-100 radiator

4-wheel disk brakes

8.8" rear end with fuel economy 3.08 gears

15x7 Explorer Limited wheels with all season tires

Shoney Bear on rear-view mirror (RIP Scruffy...)

My Father and I built it for a daily driver/hunting machine. I has a lot of parts from my first Ranger. The old man look is all his doing. :)

Hell, that ain't no beater. That's a nice truck man. I've owned some beaters =] If you'd add up the value of all the beaters I've owned(about 10), I still couldn't buy a truck that nice.

Yea, the 3.08 suck, but it is a daily driver. The traction lock 8.8 rear-end is adapted out of an Explorer hence the rear discs (the breaking power on this thing is incredible and no aftermarket proportioning valve was needed) and the need for the Explorer offset wheels to provide clearance in the rear (still had to trim the lips a little). The rear had 3.73s and the little sucker was scary, but fuel mileage sucked. It is still fast and really shows those Hemis, etc. but from a standing start it just takes a little longer to get into the rpm sweet spot than it did with the 3.73.

That shifter has been in 2 V-8 Rangers now. The first was my original one I got upon graduating from HS. That truck aquired about 450,000 miles before it was retired. It was originally a 2.0 4cyl truck (ran that engine for 100,000 miles), then we put a 3.8 V-6 with a C-4 in it (yes, you heard right) and a modified stock intake to accept a small Holley 4bbl. We ran that to a tick over 150,000 miles and decided to rebuild it (it didn't need it) and then I ported the heads and put a cam in it from Racer Walsh (not sure if they still make it). We also converted it over to Holley Pro-Jection. Ran that engine for another 150,000 and then put an HO 302 in it (the same one in the red truck, just not rebuilt yet) and ran it for another 50,000 before we decided enough was enough. I had by then given the truck to my Mother and Father and it was hell prying it from my Mother's grip. She LOVED that truck! She is now in love with the red one.

There were no V-8 swap parts bought for the truck. We either made what we needed, modified something on the Ranger, or modified something off of another Ford vehicle. The frame rails have not been cut, etc.
