Best Tailgate Lock for 99 Ranger?

I need a tailgate lock for my Ranger (99 XLT). I've read that the Pop and Lock brand is not very secure, and can be opened simply by pulling hard on the handle. Are there any other options? I haven't found any in my online searches. ????

The very first review I read on Amazon says it. Also read it elsewhere. Claimed that the pop&lock could simply be forced open by pulling hard. Said that with a metal handle it was more secure than the stock plastic. So I was thinking of buying a metal handle to go with it.

I installed the pop and lock on my truck. You'll snap off the handle before you open the tailgate. The left side may open, but the right latch doesn't disengage. It's actually pretty secure.

I saw one in an LMC truck catalog so you may be able to google it.

Home made tailgate lock

I made my own locking mechanism. I started by putting a metal tailgate handle on my truck. I then built a mechanism with a plunger rod that slides between the sheet metal near the handle and the handle itself. I used a weatherproof cam lock mounted to the side of the handle. Looks like any other car or truck lock, and works great. I can leave the tailgate locked or unlocked with the turn of the key. I also put a "matching key" lock on my gas door.

A $ 1 dollar thieft proof tail gate lock

It takes about 5 minutes to install a 2 inch hose clamp on the tail gate breach side hinge . There is no way to remove the gate without total loss.
my thoughts .Loc

I needed to lock my tailgate so no one could get under my tonneau cover. Maybe a 24 foot hose clamp would have done the job...

Best external lock I've seen

Hi,
Your lock is ingenious! I'd like to put one on my truck to prevent the tailgate from opening with the tonneau cover on. Did you make all of the parts but the lock itself? Where did you buy whatever you didn't have to make and parts for what you did?

Thanks,
Brad

I may still have the prototype at home and I can send it to you if I do.
You Can use it as is or copy it (if I still have it)
Send me your email address. I'm out of the country for a few weeks but can follow up when I get home
