i have a 93 ranger extended cab with 4.0. i have been looking at a 98 with an 01 4.0 engine extended cab what does every one think?

 

98-00 were good lookin trucks.. but why'd they swap out motors? Did they do it or someone professional? yada yada yada

 

Depends on what you want. If you are looking at a 4wd I'd say 97. If you are looking for a 2wd v6 I"d say no later than 00. Why? The SOHC 4.0 is trash.

 

93-97! I have owned two 93's, a 99, a 01, and an 04.

 

98 has a decent amount of things that make it good

OBDII
non TTB
no pretensioners
no RCM
pcm updates available to turn of downstream 02 sensor

 

his brother blew up the old motor in it.

 

TTB is way better than the true ifs if you ever plan on using 4wd.

 

yeah but id rather repair IFS over TTB, and it handles better on the road

 

if i would replace my 94 i would get a 95-97. this is a big cam of worms you just opened everyone has there own option.

 

It really depends on what you will use it for and how much you want to spend.

 

i say dont buy an 04+ because you are dealing with PATS, pretensioners, SJB, and an ugly hood...like my dads 04

 

personal preference? 2003 hands down.

For my purposes... pry a 97. With a 98-00 front clip. And some other things.

But factory ranger, 97.

2003 FX4 LII

 

I'd say 2003, I thought the 01 was so sexy when I saw it in a ford mag in mid 2000 I put an order in for one right away. Then I was bummed when the 2002 FX4 came out (should've waited a year), But I didn't like the seats, so incomes the 2003 Level II (same truck better seats). The only way this truck could have been better is if they made it in Bright Island Blue. I think this is the apex of the ranger. The 04-05 was OK looking (as long as the grill was color matched), I thought my 04 DSG Level II was hot. I do not like 06+ rangers unless they have no flairs and an STX/sport grill.

But I think the 1986-88 is the toughest looking ranger, even with its weak engine and drivetrain by todays standard, it looked great! I want another someday.

ive also got some love out there for the 98's I see more of them than any other year.

Granted I like my 04 but I dont like the front valance and those square foglights

 

98-00, but i'm partial. I also like the newer FX4's.
