So here is my dilemma...

About 3 weeks ago I got into a major accident which totalled my truck. So pissed about it, but the insurance company gave me almost the complete value of the truck, so that is definately an upside.

I do a ton of highway driving (24k a year) and I don't do alot of hauling/truck stuff so therefore I was looking for a car with better gas mileage. Anyways, I have found what I am getting... a black 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer. It will be my first brand new car, and the Evo is one of my favorite cars, so I'm psyched... just waiting on the dealer to put some paperwork through.

Since I do alot of highway driving I am concerned about rocks and other crap on the road, and since winter is coming that adds to it with sand and salt from the tow trucks. The front-end of my truck and a bunch of bug splatter and rock dings in the paint.

Should I buy a nose mask (aka bra).

Does anyone have any positive or negative critism on these?

i personally dont like them because u still get cracks and etc in paint because rocks r still smacking the front end at 60 mph

 

They're ugly, they scratch your paint, that is if you're talking about the black vinyl type ones.

You can get that clear crap that goes on, but it's expensive.

 

I would get the clear-bra......I think 3M and a bunch of other places make it. It's basically a plastic sheet that covers the front of your hood etc, but it's clear, and you can hardly tell it's there at all, but it does cost some $$$.

 

I agree they're ugly. My only saving grace is it's a black car with a black bra...

I would LOVE to get the clear stuff. But I dunno the websites to get them. I also didn't know the vinyl type bras scratch paint. That's why I figured I would mention it here.

Good to get the PROS and CONS

 

Eventually it will stretch a bit, and begin to flap and jiggle around. Dirt and crap will get in there and stay between the paint and bra. You'll end up with a million little rub marks all under where it's covered, especially on black. If you're picky you'll regret it.

You can buy some clear plastic stuff that offers stone chip/bug goo protection but is actually adhered to your paint like a big sticker. Probably a little more $$ but worth it on a brand new black car.

Thats for an 08 lancer de. $127.51 It looks like it would be worth having a pro install it. I can't even get the bubbles out of my ipod screen!

 

I looked at that site, which is about the same cost as the regular vinyl bra from the dealer so I would rather get this... what's the difference between t 3M Scotchgard or Invisi-Mask Film

 

Where are pros to install it? Does this place got like stores or something? lol

 

I'd look for a local vinyl sign place. Ask them all these questions because honestly man I don't know jack just googling. They should be able to recommend the best stuff and give you a $ figure for labour. You might talk to your salesman or service manager see who they use. Might be able to get the dealers discount that way, or have it added into the price tag.

Around here, any place that sells/installs window tint..also installs this type of clear bra.

Def. get the clear stuff. I have that on the Jetta and it is pretty amazing. My brother had one of the vinyl ones, and it was junk, it started to come apart in places.

Talk to the dealer about it. They may install it in-house, so check and see.
