bumper hooks

so my friend thinks that if my 01 4x4 ranger gets pulled by the front hooks, itll pull my bumper down.
he was so confident, that he put 100 dollars down.
now im pretty sure it wouldnt happen, so i said ok.

so u guys tell me, WOULD my bumper get pulled if i got pulled by the front hooks?

So long as you're talking about these, i see no reason why not. Ive quite violently used them to recover other vehicles(never mine tho...) and ive never had any damage done.

You can see they are just attached to the frame, away from your bumper

tell your friend to pay up! the tow hooks are connected to the frame and not the bumper. (that's why they are called "tow hooks")

That crossmember that they bolt to like to bend occasionally. Mines bent from getting tugged many times. Now, if you've got a ball on your rear bumper, and pulled someone out by wraping the loop of your strap around the ball...it would bend. Mine royally bent when i pulled a s10 blazer that was stuck. But it didn't matter, i was rear ended and it was bent anyway.

Check the first setence.... i was talking about the front. The front hooks are mounted to a frame crossmember....but that crossmember can bend. My crossmember is bent from using the hooks.

I mentioned the rear because you can definately bend the bumper.
