Bye Bye Ranger

Well, the time has come, and I will probably be putting my Ranger up for sale in the next week.

Pending a mechanical inspection, I will be purchasing a 94 Explorer XLT 4 dr. 4L 5spd 4x4, it has the same drivetrain as my Ranger, just more interior space. And, it's fully loaded except leather. It drives nice, except for the transmission and CEL is on. But, with all the experience we've had in the past 3-4 years with my Ranger, we're pretty confident we can fix the problems, and we're getting a pretty decent price on it.

The 5 spd 4 doors are REALLY hard to find, and this one is in such good condition. There's a small bit of surface rust on the driver's side quarter, but that's it. Drives nice, engine runs great, no ticking, idles great.

It will be sad to see the Ranger go, especially with all the work we've put into it. I've decided to sell it as is, and not rape it for all the custom parts (bush bar, hoop steps, etc). There is so much custom work on the Ranger.... my b/f gave me the moniker "M.W.P." for "Make-Work-Project".... he jokes that he's pissed off all his hard work is now for nothing... and that I'm giving him a new project! LOL.

We're undecided as to what will be done to the Sploder. At first, I wanted to go with a 6" susp lift and 33's, but we're already planning to lift his 99 F350... and my dog is getting old and rickety...

*note to self* First project.... a doggy ramp!!

Are Exploders welcome on Ranger-Forums??

Hey, that doesn't sound bad at all. It sounds like a nice truck actually. I could drive an Explorer with no problem -- but I like the Ranger just fine.

Hope it works out for you!

I would keep the Ranger, but my b/f got a 99 F350, and we don't really need two trucks. Plus, we have two dogs... my Rottie, and his border collie. The border collie bosses around my Rott... the two of them fight over space in the ext'd cab, with the collie always winning. My dog is 8, she has arthritis, degenerative disc disease in her lower spine, and has had the cruciate ligaments surgically repaired in both knees... so she's getting sore. Having a 60 lb border collie force a 100 lb aching rottweiler into the corner of the cab is starting to pull on my heartstrings a little.

Gotta look out for my "kids".

Well, I bought the Exploder. It was kinda sad, my b/f drove my truck home and I drove the Exploder... watching my truck being driven down the road, it's a DAMN sexy truck!! I wish I could keep both.

I hate finding extra problems after the purchase is finalized. The whole time the truck was on the lot, the fuel gauge read bone dry empty. I kind of had a laugh, "maybe it doesn't work", but the salesman had mentioned that they would need to put gas in if I wanted to take it on a longer test drive. I think they purposely keep the tanks low as they are in the auto theft hot spot of BC.

First thing we do after the sale is done, drive it down to the gas station... I pull into the "prepay" island. Go in and put $20 on my pump. Start fueling.... I got to $14 and it clicked off. Managed to get $16 in before I started seeing gas around the cap. I went back in, and said, "I just bought the thing... what a way to find out the fuel gauge doesn't work." and got my $4 back. D'oh!

I'll try to get some pictures of the sploder up soon. I feel like I should be wearing all black today... it's going to be sad clearing all my stuff out of the Ranger. Hopefully he will go to a good home.
