Assuming you removed the angled bolt holding it in....

It's stuck in there with old oil varnish and oxidization.
Gently rock it back and forth while pulling on it.

The O-ring has more then likely hardened up as well which is making removal difficult.

yup what he said - how are you planning to put the new one in? i marked the old one with a pencil wherever it was pointing, removed it slowly then marked it again where it turned when it came out. then slipped new one in the same position like a distributor.

Are you sure you got the hold down bolt out. I was able to get an angled lever under the base and gently pop it out.

mine just came out - i may have rotated it around then set it back where it came from and slowly lifted while ever so slightly rocked it back n forth. Also ive heard to dunk the end of the new one in clean oil for awhile to make sure its got oil to it upon startup. I also smeared some around the new O ring (just like an oil filter) to prevent it from sticking in the future.
