Cat glowing red

2001 3.0 Flex

If I witness my cat glowing red is it definitely trashed?

This happens to be one closet to manifold

Thanks

Yes mpg is terrible. Along with multiple misfires, shake at idle, slow acceleration, power loss...
Just wondering if the cat definitely needs to be replaced..
As of right now I have replaced all plugs, all wires. New coil pack.

My next moves are:
replace o2 sensors
clean MAF sensor
cleanTPS sensor
clean EGR valve
clean IAC valve...
Anything else I should check?

Thanks

Yes, turn on the key and press gas pedal down to the floor and hold it down all the way
Now try to start engine, it should NOT start or fire at all

If it does then you have a leaking injector thats flooding the engine

key on, RPMs at 0, throttle wide open(gas pedal to the floor) tells computer to turn OFF the fuel injector, its called Clear Flooded Engine mode, all fuel injection computers have this, not a Ford thing

If engine fires or starts
Then turn it off
Unplug the coil pack so No Start

Do the same test as above
Then pull out spark plugs one at a time
The WET one will be the cylinder with the leaking injector, but pull all the spark plugs out, the leaking one will also have a black tip from rich running

Ok
the engine did not start in "clear flooded engine mode"
so I'm guessing the injectors are good?

I also had time enough this evening to clean the MAF sensor as well as the ERG valve..
the truck seems to be running very rich still
I can smell raw gasoline while running.
I cleared the codes and I'm not getting a code as of right now but i can tell I still have misfire(s)

Thanks

Unfortunately, its reading like a computer issue

What were the codes, exactly?

The flex fuel engines in 1999/2000 use a "fuel type" sensor, $650(on sale), but I think it was dropped in 2001, you can have a look by the fuel filter

Looks like this: https://contentinfo.autozone.com/zne...U2314/image/2/

E-85, ethanol fuel, needs a RICH mix, 10:1 vs gasoline's 14:1 air:fuel
Maybe the computer "thinks" its running an ethanol mix, if its gasoline only it would be too RICH

Thats all I can think of, computer has a problem
