CB in the airbag cubbyhole?

I need a new place to mount my CB radio. It's a cobra DX19III, and I was looking around, and it seems to me that it would fit quite nicely in the little cubby next to the airbag switch. I'll just need to widen the hole slightly and possibly make the hole deeper. While I'm at it I figure I can fill in the airbag switch and use it as a switch board for my PIAAs and my soon to come ECTED. Is there anything anyone can think of as to why this might not work? Is there something behind the cubby hole that would prevent the CB from sliding back so the faceplate is pretty much flush with the cubby?

I had that whole section of that cubby out of there and there is no reason why you shouldnt be able to slide it back in there. If you look at that spot you can pull that whole black piece out of there and cut the back out so that you could slide the cb in it.

Ok sorry guys... I just got back from pulling that cubbyhole out, and there is a metal brace/frame piece back there that holds the dash together and hits the back of the CB in just the wrong spot. There would be no way I could shift into 3rd or 5th gear if I was to install it there... Back to the mother f*cking drawing board!

Well it might, but you'll have about 3 1/2 to 4 inches of the CB sticking out of the cubby hole. That'd look awfully weird to me.

Man that sucks... That was a good idea to put it there and i figured there would be enough room being you can pull that whole piece out and dremel it to how you want it. But on my way home from work today i was feelin back there and i was like crap it might stick out too far because of that metal piece and i guess it does. My thought for mounting a CB was if you feel under the middle seat there is this round tube that is under there and I was thinking about making a bracket that would clamp onto that round tube and then have a bracket coming off of it to hook to the cb so that the cb would be facing up at you. Seems to me like that would be a pretty good spot to put it. Let me know what you guys think.

I'd actually thought about putting the cb under the middle "bench" portion of the seat and taking the faceplate off and fabbing up a bracket to point it upwards, but the cb is too tall and won't fit underneath it.

Mine was there, except farther to the right, closer to the radio cluster.

Haha yeah, even if i did, I sure as hell wouldn't in my truck!

Not that the cubby hole is particularly useful anyways...

How true! The only thing that's stayed in mine is an old bottle cap like from Prom or something... I just keep forgetting it's there so it's been there for months.
