Okay hopefully my truck will go in friday for exhaust. Here's my problem though. I can get either of the setups I want for about 150 I just can't decide which I want more. So put in some imput and let me know what you think.

1. Single exit exhaust lightning style infront of passenger rear tire with a flowmaster muffler

2. Dual exhaust out the rear at a 45 degree angle with glasspack mufflers

Need help pretty quick only got 2 days to decide. :D

I too would say 1. That's pretty much what I want if I can ever rationalize the expense..

 

Stock exhaust is free. When it rusts out in a few more years I'll consider doing something.

 

It's three years old so in a few years... Duals are lame, everybody has them. I call it "the redneck package", it comes with duals straight out the back. If I did anything it would be stock location and exit style.

 

Mine is dumped under the bed after the muffler. That way I can't bash up expensive chrome tips, you can't SEE them (I dont really like the way exhaust pipes look), and it was cheap.

 

I take that comment personly :badgrin: , I understand where your coming from, But not all rednecks have duals. and y dont you save pipe and just dump it after the muffler.

Ha, if I ever redo my exhaust I'm going with DUAL Smoke Stakes up through the bed! YeeeeHawwww! Big Rig style baby!

There's nothing wrong with being a redneck, but I am not one so I don't think I should have my exhaust like that.

My opinion is just that there are so many modified trucks (bikes too) out there that they are just starting to all look the same. That's why I say that stock rules!

Plus it is much cheaper to stay stock and you get more money for your vehicle when you sell it. Instead of spending money to modify it, which is money lost, and losing money again on resale cause no one wants the same stuff on their truck as you do. Save your money, you'll find something much more important to do with it someday and you'll wish you still had it.

Just stuff I learned by getting old. I'm off the soap box now.

 

I'd suggest the first, glasspacks are incredibly loud and personally I don't like the way they sound. Then again I like my mufflers to muffle sound so what do I know.

 

Dave's comments aren't all that out of line. An opinion was asked for and an opinion was rendered.

My concerns w/ dual rear-exit pipes would be A) I'd paint my dad's nice white-hulled boat black every-time I borrowed it for the weekend and B) I hear performance is actually LOST w/ a dual system. I'm no expert, but I know in the bike world the best setup is (or at least once was) 4-into-1 or 2-into-1. We esentially have a 6 (or 4)-into-1 config stock. Duals would be a 6-into-1-into-2, which would probably muff up backpressure a bit, no? But again, I'm no expert..

And who gives a rat's *** if it looks red-neck! Break out the confederate flag and miller high life! Kick back and enjoy. Life's too short to worry about what everyone else thinks.

And Dave, about the resale: Who cares? I for one know every dime and man-hour I drop into my truck/bike/PC/X-box/home entertainment system/whatever is completely pissed away! That's why I call it discretionary income. I do it 'cause I want to, not 'cause I have to. Personally speaking resale value is one of the LAST things I think about when buying a vehicle. What's the point? By the time I'm done w/ it I don't care if I get $0.50 for it. As long as I've had fun w/ it. I had an ecconomics teacher in school that was uptight about resale values. She drove a Honda Civic, word has it that's the most economical way to go. But I'll pass thanks..

 

Look at other brands, dont just limit yourself to Flowmaster. I love my Dynomax its more than just "loud". Bassani makes a really really good system with a life time waranty. Magnaflow is another reputable brand. All I'm saying is dont limit your self, unless you realy want a Flow, then more power to ya. And do it how ever you want, if you like duals then dual it, if you like singe, single it, if you dont like any of them, like me, dump it!

 

Just my opinion but don't go glasspacks, I had them on my 90 ranger with a 2.9 running duals out the back and it sounded pretty ricey. Given the two options flowmaster might be the best set-up. I got the Bassani foward exit(lightning style)with dual oval tips, it was expensive but it is all stainless steel and should last a damn long time.

 

Who me? My pall chippy here is a cocky little bastard. I ended up face to face w/ him one afternoon while touring the Pacific coast south of San Fran. I'm a slow SOB w/ the camera 90% of the time but he just sat there staring at me and let me get my closeup. The guy's got WICKED dirty teeth too. You should see the full-size, they are nasty.. ..Anyhow.

 

I'd go with 1, I am yet to hear a glasspack on a V6 ranger that sounded good, but thats just personal opinion.

 

I like magnaflow or dynomax, i have flowmaster cause i didnt have too much money at the time and wasnt looking for performance..

Now i want a different exhaust...

Yes, FoMoCo, Bassani does make exhausts for rangers, but only for the 4.0 extended cab models. I got the foward exit like the lightning, but they do make a rear side exit also. I love mine!!! It was pretty loud at first, but then toned down a bit. ProficientPerformance.com seems to have about the best price on them I was able to find.
