Credit Card Fraud.

I just called Summit to get some shank style lug nuts with my 20 dollar coupon from them. Anyways, my card didnt go through. I dont have that much charged on it, so I called to find out what was wrong. Someone in FRANCE was trying to use my card, so they flagged the card and shut down my account.

I have a feeling i know how they got the info, but not 100% sure.

I always stay connected to the net and my computer is super buggy right now. Someone could easily have some spyware or whatever on my PC and I wouldnt even know. So, I am going to reformat and be safer. I am not 100% sure that is how they got it, but its my best guess.

I nevcer thought it would happen to me. Oh well. Sad that people have to do that kind of stuff.

Will have to wait till Tuesday to order the Thunderform. Damn thieves.

These were the 2 places that they tried using my card.

They actually got $9.28 spent at http://www.mistergooddeal.com/v2/v2_home.asp

My card was flagged and declined at http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/k.asp for 270+ dollars.

Dude that sucks....thats why I have online banking......so I can check on every transaction and make sure I made it.

My physics teacher got spam from "paypal"....it wasn't really paypal, but some place in veitnam or somewhere. It said that a hold will be put on your account if you didn't verify all your credit card info....it was a very good scam. Glad I didn't get it, I would have prob. filled it out, and lost all my money! lol. I hate stealers

I was reading stuff about identity theft and such. There are people that have had their lives ruined and cannot buy a house or a car or get jobs. Identity theft should be punishable by death, IMO. I mean, you pretty much 'kill' the person. They cant do anything they would have normally been able to do before they were 'killed'. I feel bad for those people. Some are even treated like they were guilty when it was proved they were not and are still spending years trying to fix something some eff'ed up bum screwed up in a few week's or month's time.

In theory you're not liable for the charges, that's the wonderful thing about credit cards. This is one reason why I use a credit card for online purchases and never a debit card. W/ a debit card you do not always have the same protection. And at the very least w/ a debit card the money is gone and you have to argue to get it back in the case of fraud. W/ a credit card you don't part w/ the money until you are done arguing. That makes credit cards much more apealing to me. Sure, you'll rack up fees and interest while arguing, but w/ a decent CC company those fees and interest should go away if you prove your case.

That said, yeah, identity theft is pretty scary stuff. I've been lucky so far (knocking soundly on wood and side of head), but it can happen to anyone, even those of us that are careful w/ this info. Unfortunatly it really is the price we pay for the convenience of dealing in today's society. Your identity can be a lot more secure if you never deal over the Internet, but then you'd be missing countless opportunities. Or better yet, if you never took a loan, never asked for credit, and pre-paid all your services in cash then you'd probably be a lot less vulnerable too. But what fun would that be?

I must have bad luck.

I used one of my Credit Cards to move my parents back from Georgia to Texas, so it ended up with a mighty sized balance. My parents are going to pay it off, so what they decided was to mail the bill to them and they would mail it in directly from their house. Well, I mailed the bill 11 days ago. It should only take 1 day to get to them (they live only 30 minutes away). They called me to tell me they hadnt received it and they think some mail was stolen from their mail box. I called to check card - BAM - it has some charges.

So now i have to wait for a print out from my CC company and i have to circle all the charges i didnt make on the card. Thankfully I wont be held responsible for those too.

2 credit cards down. Now why cant i have positive luck, like finding the 100 zillion dollar winning lotto ticket?
