Clutch pedal really stiff

I have a 98 Ranger, 2.5 two wheel drive. I went to town and it was fine. As I was leaving town, the clutch pedal started sticking. Then I couldn't push the clutch in. Had to have it towed home. Anyone have ideas? I was told it was the slave cylinder, but that is spongy not stiff.

Since there's not much to the system, odds are it's the slave, or the master. Try looking through the inspection hole while having someone pump the pedal. Could even be the clutch itself
