How long has it been like that, only just recently, or for since you've had the vehicle? Had a cavalier back when that had no heater, but would still cycle coolant just not through the heater core. Are you having over heating problems? Try to pass on a little more info.

just bought the 93 ranger. heater worked when a bout it 2 days ago.went to drain radiater today and nothing came out although there was water in it. pulled bottom hose to drain it. filled it back up and started it. thermostat open and filled upper hose after warming up. so i was leak checking everything i had apart and watching temp gauge. i go to shut the hood noticed both hoses sucked shut and no water going to heater core. thats obviously tyh heat problem but i have never seen both hoses sucked shut and no its not overheating. explain that one.

You need a new radiator cap, common problem with the customer vehicles that get brought into the schools auto shop and I would look into getting a lower radiator hose that has the spring built into it to prevent it from collapsing.
