Cross threaded spark
Cross threaded spark
I purchased a new truck. Was running rough. Bought plugs. When I got to the second plug it was cross threaded. I first tried the cheap two sided thread chaser but it wouldn't work. I went back and bought the good one. But now I am worried. If I cannot rethread this what options do I have? I don't habe a good feeling about it. The original plug was only in 1/4" maybe a few 1/16's more. Thats why it was running rough I assume. After buying I read the the two sided ones don't work and to use the 14mm $20 one. So I am going to try again but I don't want to damage it worse. Not sure I'll get another chance after this try. Any tips? I have done this before on a Saturn but I am the one who cross threaded that. I waa able to repair it.
Use lots of oil and pull out the threader often to clean off the metal to try and keep most of it out of the cylinder
Generally the cross threading is just at the top of the hole which is good, but does make it hard to get it started, lol
Once you are passed the cross threading it should get easier because you are just cleaning/chasing the good threads
Worst case is you can use Helicoil spark plug repair
