Yeah thats only a chevy thing... if someone jacks your radio you can't go anywhere... On the bright side with a broken window from the jacked stereo people will try to jack the truck but can't without the radio.

who the hell would steal a broken into vehicle, which for all they know, could already have been stolen (and the stereo ripped out when it was stolen) and is now dumped, and waiting for police to find it, as it has already been reported?

no one, that's who... plus, why wouldn't you just go 2 cars down, get a car AND a stereo...

My 97 XL is exactly like the 2003 XLT on the first page (except it has a cassette player instead of CD).

FWIW, the picture looks like the radio in the 1997 Maza B2300 I sold last summer. It had three power outlets, but otherwise it looked the same. The truck was gray, so if you're looking through salvage yards, don't limit yourself to gold.

CARBON FIBER LOOK IS FROM :

05-06 STX

07 STX

I WANT TO SWITCH mine to an 07 style.. only problem is in 07 they moved the fog light switch over to become incorporated into the headlight switch. They also moved the PADL (passenger airbag deactivation lamp) into the bezel. I will use that hole for an aux INPUT FOR MY STEREO. I will also in doing this simple bezel mod be making a mountain out of a mole hill since I will have to change my headlight switch and bezel over to the new style to get the fog light switch over there..

this was a FANTASTIC IDEA! nice job!
for those of us looking for double din to single din id say this is the way to go!
when i installed my new headunit the adapter i was supplied with a cheap Chinese piece of garbage. it made creaking noises and rattles while on bumpy surfaces. I had to scour the web for reviews on a quality adapter that would be strong and sound... i settled on an American International (# FM-K550) double to single din adapter and im really happy with it. Its rock solid and very well built.

That said... i didnt know this option existed. your mod is def worthy of its own new thread! do you have any other pictures of the install? whats on the back side? do clips hold it in like most of the aftermarket ones? is it as solid as it looks? did ford use any other supports in the back? like lower or side tracks?

It actually clips in like the oem radio does with the spring clips. I just bolted my radio into it and the put the bottom rear slider holder on the back of the radio and pushed it into the hole

that sounds like a way more sturdy set up for an aftermarket single din adapter.
do you have the part number?

It wasn't cheap. I got it long before I got my STX. I think it is obsolete now. Either way...

3L3Z-18842-AA

I was STX shopping for a long time.. either a F150 or a Ranger. Noticed the bezel in the 03-04 F150 with the factory single din MP3 Kenwood and got the plate. I actually had it in my 98 Explorer first. When I got the STX it was just as simple as unclipping it and plugging it into the Ranger since the bezel and wiring was the same.
