The 2003 headlamp icons should light up whenever the ignition is on or when the headlamps or parking lamps are on.

They are supposed to. Ive heard (from Bob) that most people with rangers dont even know they do light up. The bulb isnt very good and messes up or burns out quick. Mine was fine untill I took my dash apart. There is a how to somewhere on the site on changing the bulb and making it an led that will last longer. Hope this helps.

Dang, Bob...good thing I don't have you on "commission". I think I've come across like a 1/2 dozen posts lately where you've been linking my site. Way to keep my 'hit count" up, lol!

Yep they should light up... key word "should". When my truck was inder warrenty i had them replaced 4X(since is was free nd other work was being done). As of now the newest bulb(s) has(have) been in for about 6 months and theyre still working... but i dont expect them to continue much longer

My old '03 didn't light up. I didn't even know it was suppose to until I got into a friends '02 and saw it illuminated. I was like "WTF?!". I bought mine new and it never worked since day one either.

I can't even remember if my new '03's headlight switch lights up. I'll have to check that out next time I go look at it.

The headlight switch icons in 2001+ should light with ignition on or if the headlights or parking lights are on.

It appears that 1995~2000 Rangers light only when the headlights or parking lights are on.

On my 2000, it comes on when ever the truck is on, they also come on when the headlights/parking lights are on, even if the truck is off...

Thanks for the info. Could be a mid year change or a mistake in the 2000 Wiring Diagrams manual.

I often wondered about that, if the headlight switch had a light in it. I took the **** off and looked at it closer.....just a white line painted on it, no bulb in the dash or any clear plastic for the light to shine through. I looked at the back of the A/C ***** for similarity...they have the clear plastic for the light on them.

Guess my 01 wasn't special enough to get it....LOL

Mine worked when I got the truck, stopped working so I had the switch replaced and now it does not work again. They are junk.

The bulb is not in the ****. It is in the switch assembly behind the dash and lights the three icons around the ****.

It has a filament type light bulb from the factory but can be converted to LED.
