Don't buy gas on April 15th

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=150414331685086

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On April 15th 2011, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $1.20 a liter in most places.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on April 15th and let's try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, "Don't pump gas on April 15th"
I'm game for it. I figure might as well run it by your guys. I like the idea and I only fill up every 2 weeks anyway so it's no problem for me. I'm not sure why April 15th considering it's so far away. How about March 15th haha. It might not do anything really but sending a message might help a bit.

christ this gets thrown around every year. The only way to hurt the them is never buy it again. You dont buy it one day the next day everybody is just gonna go out and buy gas. The oil companies have us by the nuts.

exactly the only way to really prove a point would be to stop buying it long term. you might stop them from making as much that one day but the few days after when a more than normal amount of people fill up they make more money. It makes we wish i lived closer to school so i could walk or ride my bike and not buy gas except to go home.

LOL, i'll take the speed3 out and fill it twice. In all honesty do you really think the oil/gas companies care if nobody buys their product for a day. What do you think will happen in the next few days. WE WILL ALL BUY GAS AT THE SAME PRICE OR HIGHER SINCE DEMAND WILL GO UP. (edit: did not see vista4.0's post looks like he beat me to it)

If you're like me "a petrol head" you won't care what the price is because you love to drive. if gas goes to 10$ a gallon i'll still be driving. I might live in a dump, give up drinking and women but i'll still be driving.

lolzasuarus. then whos not gonna by gas on the real dont buy gas day hahaha

http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php...51363471591084

this bs went around myspace a couple years ago when gas hit 4 bucks. pointless because who would run out of gas on that exact day and then if you did need gas that day who would sit on the side of the road with no gas for 24 hrs just so nothing happens to gas prices.

These threads are great because you can easily spot the stupid r-f members.

Keep on posting if you're not going to get gas that day. It's hilarious.

Better idea: Drive less often and more efficiently.

when gas gets too expensive, people will stop buying it. if you're buying it then obviously the cost of not using gas is greater than the cost of using it.

Yep, it's all about supply and command. Worst-case Ontario, the gas companies increase pump prices to recoup their losses from a day of boycotting.

Gas companies sell gasoline to the gas station so they don't lose out on any money. The product is already purchased and has no effect on accounting since accounting works on a monthly/quarterly/yearly system.

That is why college UN-educated people shouldn't think of ways to boycott companies.

Exactly, it will only hurt the gas stations numbers on that day. The day after many more people will need to fill up so they will raise the prices and have a record breaking day.

Lets start here.

First off since you were 3 when this supposedly first happened you probably won't remember that gas prices in 1997, were about $1.50 a gallon, so people didn't have a need for doing a "gas out". Not to mention that in 1997 there were about 5 non-**** web sites on the internet that didn't have rotating giff globe and a midi song. So the likely hood of something this grass roots getting organized then was near impossible. At best it would have been sent around via email which was really only being used for ascii ****.

As some others have stated this is pretty much a pointless urban legend that never actually does anything.

My philosophy on the gas thing is basically this.
Gas prices rising means that less people will be driving their car. Gas prices don't bother me, its just something that i need to get in order to get by in life, therefore less people driving means less people in my way for those of us that care not about the price of gas.

First off, your math sucks, I was 4-5 in 1997 Secondly it's a quote from the Facebook link provided, not my own words, and I do not remember gas prices in 1997. I do remember what hot wheels I got that year though, if you were wondering.

Just remember kids: It's all Bush's fault. Even though we have a democrat president, every republican is to blame for the rising cost of gas.
