Adding Gauges, help please
I'm going to mount two gauges on my A-Pillar (Auto-Meter Ultra-Lite series), I want to mount a Transmission Temp. gauge and a Engine Oil Pressure gauge. Which of each (link to selection below), would be best for my truck, my understanding is the difference is a mechanical or electrical sending units, which one(s) are best for my application?
Trans Temp. gauge selction
Oil Pressure gauge selection
Any help is appreciated, I don't understand the difference between mechanical and electrical sending units and which is better?
Also, where do I mount these? If anyone could answer any of these, thanks!!

I would only use electrical gauges on any street driven vehicle. They are cheaper, easier to install, safer, and are completely adequate for the application.
It is possible to do a safe installation of a mechanical oil pressure gauge but it would require using an isolator to keep the high temp pressurized oil away from the interior. More work and more expensive ($100 extra for the isolator and the mechanical gauges also cost more).

I remember years ago I picked up my Dads Mazda RX4 from the dealer after a new engine was installed. He had a mechanical oil pressure gauge installed. I'm going down the freeway & I'm guessing because of the higher oil pressure from the new engine the little plastic line popped off the gauge. I'm cruisin down the interstate @ about 80MPH & this damn plastic line is whipping around spraying hot oil everywhere...what a mess that made before I could pull over.
