Extended Warranties thruogh Ford

What are your experiences as far as them covering stuff, and also, what kind of cost would I be looking at?

FYI: I work in sales at a Mercedes Dealership, but have worked at other brands such as ford and chevy over the years

I believe that the extended warranty is a good thing to buy on a vehicle, but I say this with conditions.

Question is this a new car or a Certified Pre-Owned?

Conditions:
New Car
1. You should not pay more than $100-$200 over cost most dealers start nearly $600 or more over cost. Have them show you an internal cost sheet(usually is actual cost)
2. You dont buy an extremely long extension the longer you go out in time the more the warranty cost with a dramatic increase at the long end.
3. Think about how long you plan to own the vehicle, and think about how long you have owned vehicles in the past. Most people only own a car for 3 years if you are one of these people the factory warranty will most likely cover you.
4. Best buy for you money is typically a one year extension to the warranty.

Certified Pre-Owned (CPO)
1. Again do not pay much over cost
2. These vehicles typically come with an extension to the remaining factory warranty and so you should think carefully about what kind of extension you need.
3. CPO cars typically have different programs for extended warranties then new cars do, and are quite often cheaper
4. One year extensions are not as dramatically less for CPO cars.

Used Cars (not certified)
1. First check into purchasing a warranty through a factory dealer for that make and not just any old warranty.
2. Cost vary dramatically based on who provides the warranty

General Rules.

Read Carefully what the warranty covers and make sure it covers what you want it to. Also, find out what can void the extended warranty, some can be voided by driving too many miles.
Check where the warranty can be serviced. It is better to get a warranty that can be serviced in many locations, such as a manufacturers warranty.
Lastly if you have set a budget for yourself as to what you can afford dont exceed it just because it seems like a good deal.

i know im opening an old thread but iuts better than starting a new one.

now that, thats out the way,

is "easycare" any good, or do i stick with the ESP from ford. a dealer showed a "press release" or something that said ford bought easycare, but easycare covers other makes as well? im curious and would like further information.

also, my cheapest quote so far is for easycare, at $1400 for 36month extension, 75000 miles with a $100 deductible. yay or ney?

Back in febuary when I bought out my lease I got fords own Premiumcare plan from the site linked http://www.genuineservice.com/genuin...ault?page=Home. I got an extra 36m60k or 75kmiles for $1450/w $0 deductable. I also checked all the local dealers and they wanted between $500-$2000 for the same plan.

My extended warranty plan is through First Extended Service Corporation, and for 60k miles or till 6/2007, I paid around 1000$ when I bought my 01 in 2003.
So far the plan has covered everything that has gone majorly wrong with my Ranger, and I love it. My deductible is 50$.

So far I have killed and got replaced under warranty:
All 4 ball joints
A wheel bearing
Got seal replaced in front transfer case because it was leaking or something
Right now its in the shop for the driver's side cv-joint, they replaced the passenger side one yesterday because they thought it was the passenger side, and I went to pick it up and put it in 4wd before I left and it's still broke, so I told them and they're going to change out the driver's side one today.
I know I got something else from the warranty but can't think of it at the time. I'm just saying that I enjoy the warranty.

When I bought my truck it was still under factory warrenty(about to run out though), so I got the Ford premium extended warrenty. It was about $800 and it was well worth the money from me. I have over $6000 in work done to it since then(Trans. 3-5x{$5300} A/C work and much more). I would reccomend a Ford warrenty and not somebody elses, my dad had a bad expierience with somebody elses warrenty on his first F-150.
