i dunno bout that. the buy out on my truck is $11,000 yet its currentyl selling on the lots for around 15,500 thats the xlt value pkg. 4.0 4x4 2 door rubber floor. and my truck, is a lil more 'classy' cause its actually been waxed in its life time, and its got the leather steering wheel, and cruise. 90% of those selling around here dont have cruise. So, all in all, my truck has gone UP in value. not down.
if your jumping down from a f150 get a 4 door ranger. the 2 doors are ok, but 4 doors are way better, especially if u got issues with u back. and if u get your feet muddy/dirty alot, consider a truck with a rubber floor. i love my rubber floor. no stains, and if u drop ur smoke, its not an instant hole like it with with carpet.
imho: keep the F150...it's a better truck
ranger's and gas mileage are a crapshoot...for every 20 rangers, 10 will do awful (about what the F150 does) 5 will be mediocre (16-18mpg) 3 will be acceptable (20ish) and 2 will do fantastic (25-30mpg) and be 2wd/4-cyl/manual
considering that you're getting a 4x4, you'll either have the 3.0 (which, I just ask that you don't) or the 4.0, both of which on a 4x4 will not get great gas mileage
ex:
EPA on the '07 ranger with 4x4/auto/4.0 is 15mpg
EPA on the '05 F150 with 4x4/auto/4.6(or 5.4) is 14mpg
why get the 1mpg if the the ranger will be smaller, less refined, has a V6, etc.?

Mine is worth a heck of a lot more than yours and I bought it for 13K. I think it was marked 14k on lot and that 13k I paid included a 1 year warranty.
I wonder if I have the leather steering wheel though. I know I have the "ballin interior package". Cause umm...its sweet.
And here's *accurate* mpg, taken from fueleconomy.gov
Truck+engine User Average: EPA
Ranger 19.3 14 18
150 4.6 17.4 13 17
150 5.4 16.6 12 16
I just checked the values on my Ranger because I am thinking of moving up to an F150. About middle of the road between trade in and retail values, I'm at about 13,000 although it has very low mileage. I can't say the 4.0 is underpowered at all but I have a 4x2 supercab. It's a very fast truck and with the programmer it is alot of fun.
Unfortunately, what the book value is and what you would probably actually get are not going to be the same. I have a 2000 XL sport reg cab A/C, M/T, 4cyl with 100000 miles and in very nice shape and the book retail value is $4900.
How many people do you think would pay 5G for that?
The private party values are the more realistic prices. which on my truck is about $3700....seems about right

i am on my 2nd ranger both with 4.0L first was a 96 4.0 4x4 with 218k and ran awesome no probs till lady hit me and now my 99 4.0 4x4 extended 4door off-road package and i love it i just got 19.8mpg going up north to NH about 300miles so its good on highway but city is a lot worse.
my kbb private party value is $7,530 with 125k fully loaded
and i tow a jetski and trailer about 1k LBS and it does awesome towing cant feel its behind you untill you try to stop quick lol.
and i'm 6'3" 230lbs and i have a ton of room to go if needed.

My private party value is over $13000.

right...I was responding to FMD. You had said your private party value was about 13K and that is excellent condition. No one gets excellent condition money for a trade in...you should look at the good condition column. Excellent condition means showroom
I remember when the dealer showed me the KBB of my truck. 20K, lol. I might've kept it, ill look for it.
Here's a ****in laugh,

I have a 2007 XLT supercab 4d 4x4 4.0l it has good interier room .as long as u keep your foot out of it I get 20 mpg .If i dont i get 15 mpg power is decent. If you dont wont a 4wd you can get an f 150 4x2 with a v6 cheaper and prob. better mpg

1.) the #'s I posted were from fueleconomy.gov
2.) the #'s I posted were for a 2005 F150 (what the OP has) and a 2007 Ranger (closer to what the OP wants to get), not for a 2005 ranger
the "average" EPA gas mileage of a 2005 F150 with the 4.6 is 14mpg (12 city, 16 highway)
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calcu...umn=1&id=21161
since the 2008 ranger EPA #'s aren't posted yet, I used the closest values that says the "average" EPA gas mileage of a 2007 Ranger with the 4.0 is 15mpg (14 city, 17 highway)
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calcu...umn=1&id=22913
based on EPA #'s the difference in gas mileage is negligible when considering how much bigger and nicer the F150 is
not that it matters because I'm saying 1-2mpg is not a big difference, but you posted '05 ranger gas mileage #'s...the OP is considering an '08 (which according to fueleconomy.gov, actually gets 1mpg worse highway gas mileage than the '05)
yes, there was one "user posted" average of 19.3mpg on the ranger, but that's for a different year ranger (2005), and it was only based on one ranger. predictions on gas mileage are better based on pools of more than one truck. and like I said earlier, rangers and gas mileage are a crapshoot, and roughly 3 out of every 20 rangers I see will do acceptably for gas mileage and the rest do the same, if not worse than EPA...so I'm willing to bet whoever posted 19.3mpg was one of the 3/20, and there's a good chance that if the OP gets an '08 ranger, he's going to get 15mpg or worse

^^^ I don't buy that sh*t... I get 20+ mpg all the time with my 4.0 SOHC. My father has a Yukon Denali that he consistently gets 18+ mpg. its all how you drive and how you take care of it. Heck the lifted guys on here say they get 15-16 mpg average with a SOHC, and thats on 35's!!!
I traded my 2004 FX4 S/C F150 back in on a 2005 Ranger FX4. I miss the interior space, but that's about all. The Ranger doesn't get that much better gas mileage than the 150, but gas station trips are a lot less when you're filling up 19.5 gallons vs. 27+.

If you get 20+mpg, my guess is you're part of the lucky 15% that get acceptable gas mileage w' a ranger. Another 25% will do mediocre, 50% does crappy, and 10% do worse than V8's twice their size

the OP wants to get a 4wd 4.0 ranger; I'm just saying it's very likely he won't get much better gas mileage than his F150
