Filler hose leaking gas on top of tank....

My winter beater is leaking fuel when i fill her up. I think the hose is shot where it connects into the tank. I noticed it dripping/leaking out under the truck when the tank was full. She is parked now and doesnt seem to be leaking so i know its not the plastic tank.

How hard is it to replace the hose or connection? Obviously remove the bed right?

Usually filler neck grommet, very common issue. Just remove filler tube, swap out grommet and reinstall filler tube, lubricate with very thin film of grease (gas tank hole, all of grommet and filler tube from bottom to 4" above where grommet sits so no dry rub upon install). IIRC flatrate pays 1 hr.

Ahh... My old '94 leaked from the filler neck but it ended up being that the rubber neck itself was cracked. I coated it with fuel safe RTV and it hasnt leaked since.

Sorry I guess I could have elaborated a little more.. The rubber filler tube itself was cracked right at the curve above where it slides onto the gas tank. I dont know why it was cracked (most likely from being old and getting hung up on the bottom of the bed when putting the bed back on) but it was and it leaked like a banshee. I would pour probably a quart of gas on the ground filling my tank at the station.

where are the 6 bolts that hold the bed on, mine are probably pretty rusted and will prob be a pain to get loose?

why are some people saying you need to remove the bed and some arent? by the looks of it it would seem you have to, but i have read different also.

I've never had a problem with the bed bolts on a Ranger. You dont actually have to remove the bed to work on the filler neck because of the fact that you can drop the tank but I find it easier. The only problem is, unless you have a way of lifting the bed off by yourself, its a two man job.

Thats Exactl where mine cracked, i attributed it from being old.

as for the Bed bolts, they're in the bed, about 8-10 inches from the side. there is 6 of them. 3 in each side. if your a pretty strong guy, you can lift the bed up and tilt it on the drivers side, but becareful of where you do it so you don't Eff up the side of the bed.

LOL, knowing myself that is what I will end up doing!!

Someone said the ebay ones for $50 dont let you pump gas fast? Anyone know why?

I can't see spending $400 for one from ford for a 17 year old vehicle I plan on getting rid of this year.

Thanks....
