I finally found one for my '00 XLT. Had to drive 4 hr to to pick it up. Rare as hen's teeth they are, especially in good shape, and more especially at a decent price, so I was willing to drive. (paid $450 and it looks practically new) That drive nearly killed me (the XLT has 270k on it and the seats might as well be milk crates for all the comfort they have left in them) but it was worth it. I'm happy now. I think I got lucky because the post had been up for 20 days. I couldn't imagine it was still available when I found the listing. The guy said he was getting calls from all over but everyone kept trying to get him to come down off the $500 he was asking originally. I told him he could have listed it for double what I paid and I'd still have made the drive and not quibbled a bit with the price. I waited till it was on my truck before I shared that tidbit, of course.

Here's the bit I wanted to post about. I bought this one from a Ford dealership. The guy there said when the trucks come in they strip the odds and ends off of them to sell them in as close to stock condition as possible, so he ends up with a lot of tool boxes and campers piling up by the detail shop out back. He said he just sold a whole stack of flare side campers for little to nothing he's had sitting out on the back 40 to one guy who brought a trailer and hauled off the whole stack. He was having a time getting rid of them and the pile was getting big so he sold for next to nothing to get them off the lot. When I was there he had a 10' stack of toolboxes, including a narrow flare side box which you can't hardly find anywhere. I got the last camper he had on hand.

Flare side owners looking for campers - check the dealerships in the metro areas near you. They might have what you're looking for sitting out back. Maybe watch craigslist/autotrader for dealers selling used flare sides and call on the off chance they pulled a shell off of them, or go make friends with one of the managers handling used vehicles so they give you a call when one shows up. I told this guy to come post here because there's always half a dozen people looking for flare side shells at any given time and he won't have any problem unloading them here.
