So what happened? What year, engine, transmission, 4x4 or not, etc. We have no pertinent info to help you.

I tried to delete this thread due to lack of interest. So thank you hugely for responding.

99 ranger XLT RWD. 3.0l 4r55e transmission.

Key won't shut off. I can't get the key out of the ignition. It's like I shut it off in gear.

I've checked the linkage under the dash and it's tight.

Have a new ignition cylinder lock on the way.

Not sure what else to check.

I have the same configuration. But a 2000.
have you tried turning the steering wheel while trying to shift out of park? Maybe get someone to try turning the key while you turn the wheel and move the shift lever.
I can’t thing of anything else. I hope someone else has an answer for you. Good luck.

Vice grips

If you grab the key and wiggle it while trying to remove the lock cylinder it should free up, otherwise if you have the new part just force the lock cylinder into position and tank it out. Clean the bore and push the new cylinder into place.
