Icon4 Ford Ranger Ignition

Well, I just rebuilt my 92 ford ranger and I was ready to start it and the key started sticking randomly. I was a dumb *** and ended up pounding a screw driver into it therefore wrecking the ignition. Is there a way I can bypass the actual ignition and key deal and just have a button to start it? Ive really been frustrated as ive put over 2000 dollars into the dumb truck and after me raging and cussing I cant even start the freaking thing. I want an easy fix and hopefully some of you pros can help me out! HELP HELP HELP!

Welcome to the forum

Well no, no easy way to do what you want

The "ignition switch" is actually UNDER the steering column above brake pedal area

The key cylinder just pushes/pulls a rod inside the column that slides the ignition switch into its 4 positions, ACC, OFF, RUN, START

An Ignition switch looks like this: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/KK2uO_xaDKA/maxresdefault.jpg

Has a pin that sticks up and the key's actuator rod slides it forward and backwards

A "start button" is not hard to wire in, but an ON switch is more complicated because of all the systems and fuses that need to be powered ON, and then OFF so you don't drain the battery
Quite frankly you would be better off to fix switch or actuator and key cylinder
