Maintenance and Other Preventative Inspections
I ended up strolling onto Ford's web site and selecting the owner's link to register my new (to me) vehicle. According to the maintenance schedule it breaks down the recommended services for all mileage intervals. It doesn't show changing the automatic transmission fluid and filter until 150,000 miles. Is this correct? On every 15,000 mile interval it shows checking the level, but that's it. It does, however, recommend replacing the fuel filter and air filter every 30,000 miles. Do you guys actually do that? I am about to come up on 30,000 and would like to start it now if need be.
On another note, when it says "Inspect and lubricate all non-sealed steering linkage, ball joints, suspension joints, half and drive-shafts and u-joints," what type of lubricant should be used? I haven't read my whole Haynes, so I'm not sure if it refers to this in the manual or not.

every 150000 is ok, as long as its not: Leaking, Severely burned, Slipping, Bumping hard etc.
so basically, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. i've always had a bump even after i changed the fluid and filter (a4ld) but after i added a can of seafoam transtune it striated it out within 2 weeks.
your fuel filter is a definite for 30000 and your air filter i would only change if its dirty.

For the mazda manual trans, service interval is 60,000 miles
For the 4r44, 4r55, 5r44 and 5r55 the fluid should be changed at 150,000 miles per the workshop manual, but 30,000 miles for severe duty (towing, offroading, arge tires etc)
If you have ever worked on a 4r or 5r trans, or if you know anything about viscosity breakdown you wont wait until 150k
