the only difference in 2wd and 4 is the tail housing IIRC

no a 3.0 wont work different bell housing

05Level2 05-25-2010 10:00 PM

Its a electronic sensor or something that went out, ive know a few others whis od and d started acting lime its in neutral and it was a solinoid. Good luck man this isnt good news on a 07.

I would still go beg for warranty work. Like everyone else says, the worst they can do is tell you no. I think most dealers would turn you away but you may run into one who feels like the Ford warranty payment is sufficient (it hardly is) and wants to help you out.

Ya the Ranger manual transmission leaves a lot to be desired. I love driving manual transmissions but the Ranger's tranny doesn't feel that great to shift.

Sonic04Edge 05-25-2010 10:39 PM

back in our 96 windstar we had. just out of know where it would only shift if done manually. The shift computer had crapped out on it.

Redneckstone 05-26-2010 06:11 AM

Sounds like my truck was a separator plate gasket

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-26-2010 09:59 AM

sounds like it could be one of multiple simple problems.. which kinda gives me home. but i wouldn't even know where to start lol. hoping to track down a spare set of 16" wheels and throw the little tires on them and take it in.

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-26-2010 10:08 AM

sh!t so i really don't know what to do..

wait for someone to email me back on craigslist about their wheels for sale. or just go and buy an 4wd explorer trans and swap it and be done? the second one will take nowhere near as long as taking it to a dealership. plus i need it done by saturday for work. unless the dealer gives you a rental if you're under warranty..

04blackedge 05-26-2010 10:10 AM

Most dealers will do that

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-26-2010 10:20 AM

well if they do that, and do the work under warranty, then i guess there would be no problems. guess it can't hurt to try..

Melt 05-26-2010 10:49 AM

yea considering yours is an 07 i dont see them not giving you a rental.

camodown 05-26-2010 11:53 AM

just throwing it out there since you had the fluid changed 4,000 miles ago or whatever you said. Have you checked your fluid level?

Prerunner-Ranger 05-26-2010 01:24 PM

Get it rebuilt and make sure they put a shift kit in it this time. Also, if your going to keep those 35s regear but I would get rid of them. They cause so much random stress on your suspension... I had to downsize back to 33s and I'll never go back.

Downey 05-26-2010 06:09 PM

ty jason said it was the neutral safety switch on the side of the trans but it didnt fix all his problems

if gets done under warranty i dont think i'll be getting a shift kit. but if i can't get it done under warranty then i'll get one put in when i get it rebuilt

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-26-2010 06:43 PM

how do i check the fluid? poked around briefly and didn't see how to. lol

korey89 05-26-2010 06:52 PM

Theres a dip stick towards the back of the engine bay. You only have 2, one for oil and one for trans fluid

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-26-2010 07:04 PM

thanks. like i said not much of a trans guy lol. i can work on anything else, but don't kow jack squat about transmissions

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-26-2010 07:57 PM

it was hiding under a hose or two in there lol on the pass side.

anyways, trans fluid looked fine.

and i have good news, my dad has a good buddy who builds prototype parts for offroad ford race trucks, and he's good friends with the owner of a dealer here in town. he's also good friends with the tranny guy. <- lol
anyways, he has an f150 with a lot done to it, and got it in for tranny work under warranty. he's gonna talk to them tomorrow and let us know. might not even have to mount up the 30" tires my dad had stock on his sierra! lol and i'll either be able to get a rental car, or i can drive my aunts range rover for a while since they'll be out of town. soon after i get the truck back it'll be regeared. start my new job on saturday, fulltime + a lot more per hour. ftw!

korey89 05-26-2010 08:37 PM

smell it and see if it smells burnt

Prerunner-Ranger 05-26-2010 09:50 PM

new job?

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-27-2010 11:27 AM

great news!

it will be covered under warranty. but i either need to A: calibrate the speedo for the bigger tires, or put smaller tires on it. i found one of the new diablosport predator tuners for 200 bucks here for an 07 truck so i'm gonna be picking that up today and adjusting the tire size then taking it in. woot!!! i just hope i get a rental lol

05Level2 05-27-2010 11:53 AM

Be sure to keep us updated when they tell you what is wrong, also you have a car domain or anything with pics of your truck it looks pretty sweet.
