fvcking transmission

I think its done. Outta nowhere I'd try to go from a stop light and it doesn't go anywhere. Just revs like its in neutral. But if I click it down to 1st or 2nd it goes just fine. Is it done or is it a simple fix?

ES894x4 05-25-2010 07:27 PM

auto ftl, last time you adjusted bands, changed filter/fluid?

fourliter dan 05-25-2010 07:28 PM

hmm dose it manually shift through as your going ok?

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 07:40 PM

Fluid was changed 5k miles ago. Bands have never been tightened.

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 07:41 PM

And it shifts 1-2 when I do it myself.

korey89 05-25-2010 07:46 PM

Damn, thats what 35s+stock gears+highway+arizona temps will do to your transmission. Too bad you never put a trans temp gauge in the truck

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 07:55 PM

Actually weather has been in the 70s and below. Gonna figure **** out and maybe end up buying an ebay tranny. 500 bucks isn't bad. Do I need to specify that its for a 4wd truck or what

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 08:02 PM

If it was completely ****ed it wouldn't work at all right? I need to unfvck it soon lol. Thank god I'm off this week. Should I start with tightening the bands?

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 08:06 PM

Any ideas? Tighten the bands? New torque converter?

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 08:07 PM

Take my chances and try and get it done under warranty?

rangerboy101 05-25-2010 08:08 PM

Just go in there and try. The worst they will say is no.

08rangerdan 05-25-2010 08:08 PM

this sounds similar to another issue on here, but it sounds like a valve body issue to me..

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 08:16 PM

I don't know much about transmissions. Is that something that can be replaced? Somewhat easily? Between me my dad and a few friends we have the tools and the knowledge. Lol

wellcom2knoxvile 05-25-2010 08:19 PM

if i were you i would look to swap in a manual if your tranny swapping!

fourliter dan 05-25-2010 08:37 PM

honestly ty i would check the dealer, then try the bands, then go for a new one, but it will do it again eventually unless you get gears man. good your off tho

08rangerdan 05-25-2010 08:39 PM

manual swap looks interesting, but very impressive to pull off. im scared to try it but i imagine that would be a next move for me. but i probably wouldnt try to keep an oem swap it would defeniately be a full carborated engine swap and no computer involved. but i dont have much research on that yet.. the valve body is easy enough to replace but take it to a trans shop first, sometimes they can easily pin point an issue, its hard to guess with trans issues

brianjwilson 05-25-2010 08:51 PM

A Ranger manual transmission is hardly an upgrade if you ask me. I like driving a manual transmission a lot more but the Ranger manual trans isn't exactly known for it's strength or reliability.
I would still go beg for warranty work. Like everyone else says, the worst they can do is tell you no. I think most dealers would turn you away but you may run into one who feels like the Ford warranty payment is sufficient (it hardly is) and wants to help you out.

Melt 05-25-2010 08:53 PM

yea its done, the 94 accord i had did the same **** but only when the engine was cold.

Toreador4x4 05-25-2010 09:00 PM

tyler, it could be the valve body but, when you use man1 and man2 the low/reverse band is applied. sounds to me like the forward clutches are burnt up

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 09:15 PM

tracking down a spare set of wheels so i can mount my dads stock sierra tires on them and take it in. i figure it will be a lot easier with 30" tires. lol

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 09:17 PM

also let me ad. i just got it home. if i try and go in D it barely moves forward and revs up. but it goes in 1 and 2. once im up to speed if i shift it into D it works just fine. WTF. lol

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 09:26 PM

oh forgot to add. shutters in reverse too.

Downey 05-25-2010 09:37 PM

jason had a problem like this. let me text him and ask what it was. it was some little switch on the side of the tranny that was going bad.

yea with my past valve body issue mine shuttered in reverse and felt like it was fighting to lock up, it would only drive after i bumped into 2 or 1 then back to D but mine even tried to creep in neutral sometimes depending which gear direction you were shifting from. id say if the gears work fine when you drive, no slipage, unusual rpm, shifts or sounds then a valve body or servo or shift controller is at fault

Tys 4x4 FTW 05-25-2010 09:56 PM

hmm

and the trannys are different between 2wd and 4wd correct?

and would the 5r55e from a 3.0 ranger bolt up to the 4.0?
