Gas tank install

I have a 94 ranger 4x4 extended cab which I had been in the process of replacing the front leaf spring hangers. Shocks, and exhaust. During this adventure I removed the gas tank. If this is a stupid question just say so. I've been known to have brain lapses and can't figure something out. Take some time away and come back and be successful. Anyway, I can't get the tank to slide back in. I know it came out of there but this past weekend when I tried putting it back in it just would go in. There is very little space to work with between the back of the tank and axle. What am I missing? besides brain power?

Thanks for the reply. The bed is off and the tank is out. You might want to read my post again.

your post did not state that the bed was already off but

back track on how exactly you removed the fuel tank in the beginning

I know how I removed it. That's what's frustrating. Although it took a little wiggling and turning to get the tank out. I wasn't expecting it to be such a bear to get back in. But it's not the first part I've installed that needs to be positioned just right to go in. I suppose I'm going to need to just be patient and get the tank positioned just right. Must only go in one way. I suppose the answer I was looking for is what I probably already know.
