generation clarification question

if my math is right my 08 would be a 5th gen. correct?

83-88 is 1st
89-92 is 2nd
93-97 is 3rd
98-00 is 4th
01-current is 5th

right? i'm going on wen they did the body changes. the 00-current seems fuzy to me since all they did was change the bumper and headlights.

please, someone give some feedback to clear up my ignorance.

Yes, you seem correct. Best advice is to get on Wikipedia.com type in Ranger and it will give the same list or something similar.

I think of it as....

83-92 1st
93-97 2nd
98-current 3rd.

At least, that's how I look at it. Significant changes between the models in my model. lol....i'm likey wrong. lol. I fail.

Actually.. that sounds about right in my own thinking too, Shane..

The significant body changes happened then, and just in teh "newer" gens.. all they have been changing is the front end and hood and valance/bumper.. the rest has been pretty much the same since I think.

No.

Generations of Rangers are as follows:
83-88 = Gen 1
89-92 = Gen 2
93-97 = Gen 3
98-00 = Gen 4
01-03 = Gen 5
04+ = Gen 6

just about whenever there was a front end change is when the generation changed.

imo....doesnt make sense to me. lol. I mean come on....what what changed between gen 5 and gen 6...really......headerpanel, hood, grile, bumper, some small electronics? What about gen 1 and gen 2. Grilles?

I think gen differneces should be major.....not just cosmetic differences. Gen 1 & 2 can be rolled together, because they are the same. 93-97 rolled together(huge difference between gen 1. and 98 and up rolled together(intro of A-arms, different styling). suspension changes, engine changes, exterior changes........major ones are what should define the "gen" designations.

I just think it's retarded.

Gen 1 camaros vs Gen 2 camaro vs Gen 3 vs Gen 4 vs Gen 5......MAJOR differences. Not just little subtle differences like the ranger Gen lines.

See what i'm saying?

The '83-'88 Rangers and the '89-'92 Rangers have major differences. The dog house was redesigned, new frame, and complete new interior. The interior got a complete make over with a new dash, door panels, seats, and electronics.

There was one major change in the Gen 3's ('93-'97). The interior in the '93-'94 Rangers was like the '89-'92 interiors. They had the squared off dash. In '95, Ford redesigned the interior to match the current setup.

I think the reason they have the Gen's setup like that is because there haven't been a lot of changes to the Ranger over the years. If you look, the Ranger is one of the only vehicles to stay the same.
