When I went from 3.73's to 4.56s...I rediscovered that my truck was actually capable of acceleration...something I had forgotten!

Tyler, I was in the same boat you are, I did alot of researching on here, and getting different opinions from guys who were running either gear ratio. I went with 4.88's, and 100% happy that i did, I would have been kicking myself in the *** if I hadn't. 4.88 w/35's is perfect, Off Road/ On the road, freeway or in town. 4.88!!

i was upset that when i first drove it, it felt the same., but after i got it on the freeway i knew it wasnot i could haul *** in 5th gear like nobody's business and pass with out downshifting and it was fun to drive again.

over all it was a major inprovement. My only complaaint was i waited so long to do the swap.

Awesome that you are getting 4.88s!

I have a threadjacking sort of question though. How bad do you guys think it would be with 4.88s and 33s. Eventually, when/if I quit offroading my truck, I want to get 35s and I only want to regear once obviously. I think I would like the lower gear with 33s, as long as it isnt too gearbound. I am also trying not to scatter another transmission. Unfortunately, mine wasn't under warranty.

You'll be fine. Obviously it will rev higher on the highway, but the engine will still be in its power band.

My 05 Sport Trac (4.0L SOHC automatic 4x4) had 4.88 gears and 33x12.50s, it was fine. Went like hell from a stop. Highway was fine, just revved a little higher.

OMG OMG OMG so amazing!!!! and i've been super easy on the truck so far. gotta break em in for a couple hundred miles. but wow holy crap! just normally accelerating from a light its so nice! shifts way lower with hardly giving it any gas. doesn't hesitate on the shifts like it did before. ahhh just so amazing!

oh and everything ran me 1,323.

gears and everything ran a bit over 500. rest is labor.

Yet another awesome post that confirms the theory: if you go 35's, you should REALLY consider swapping gears!!

Awesome, glad to hear you like it. Now there is another person on the forum with some sense to recommend the correct gearing to re-gearing newbs! lol
