so i got pulled over in the ranger yesterday for seemingly no reason. the cop came to the window and asked my friend in the passenger seat if he had any firearms. my friend said no so he asked me. when i said no, he told me that my plates had registered as a stolen Mitsubishi galant. after making several trips from my plate back to his cruiser, he said that the tow hitch obstructed his view of the licence plate, and that i should move the tow hitch. my question is, can they give me a ticket for NOT changing the factory appearance of the truck?

 

did you have the receiver with ball in? i know in NC now, the license plate frames that go around the plate are illegal. there can't be anything blocking any part of the tag here. i would assume it would be the same here with receiver/ball. i think it's technically illegal to leave it in anyways.

 

just tell him you were on the way home from dropping off a boat or something.

if you got a ticket, fight it.
idk about there but here truck plates are a different color then car plates.

 

You should have flexed your biceps and said:

"Why yes, officer....I DO infact have firearms in my possesion"

 

If you weren't being detained, just asked the officer "Am I free to go?" Sounds like he just wanted to make a bigger deal outta of something that wasn't.

 

You CANNOT get a ticket for something that came on the truck from the factory.

If you left the ball in the hitch, then you COULD, but that'd be an easy fight in court. Here in Mass, the license plate frames are illegal since they partially cover words on the plate.
